400 Hear Speakers At Farm Meeting
More than 400 farm men and women attended Stromsburg High School on February 11 for the first annual farmers short course staged by the Polk County Extension Service Stromsburg Commercial Club and the AAA. The program featured talks on repairing machinery, permanent pasture grasses, and wartime agriculture efforts. Senator Stanley Matzke gave the main address urging unity in the emergency and three Extension Service board members were elected. Irvin Scott, prominent Stromsburg druggist and civic leader, was buried in California. he died February 11 after a career spanning several states.

Hoffer Family Pioneer Dies After Long Minnesota to Utah Life
Samuel Hoffer born September 9 1866 in Bushnell Illinois moved with family to Nebraska in 1871 as early settlers. He later served as postmaster blacksmith and farmer and built a Haigler flour mill before moving to Payson Utah where he died February 6 1942 at age 75. He survived by widow four sons and one daughter with several grandchildren. Funeral held in Osceola with Rev J M Herrmann.
