Amanda Mentzer born March 18 1853 in Lancaster County Pennsylvania daughter of William and Mary Mentzer died February 7 1935 at the home of Mr and Mrs Glenn Willits aged 1 year 10 months and 20 days. She moved to Illinois then Nebraska in 1875 with her husband Samuel Krader and seven children. Funeral at Polk Baptist Church with Rev J L Hedbrcom officiating. Interment Polk Cemetery.
The Rivoli Theatre installs a new wide range sound recording system with a high fidelity amplifier and speakers that reproduce 40 to 15 000 cycles. Manager F E Klein says the upgrade cost an extra $500 to deliver the best and latest sound, and future improvements will be added as available.
The Corn-hog contract signers can expect a corn loan next fall announced by Chester Davis administrator of the agricultural adjustment act. Non signers are ineligible and the loan amount will depend on the future corn price. The move anchors the ever normal granary policy aimed at smoothing supply and prices for farmers and consumers alike.
Agricultural agents report no contracted acres in 1935 and a shift allowing retirement acres to plant any crop except corn. The plan benefits landowners with rent and payments, while farmers seek seed supplies and possible seed loans as drought relief and program details unfold.

Mr and Mrs Ray Arnold of Surprise Nebraska hosted guests of Mr and Mrs Charles Reed. The Wesley Chapel Club met with fourteen members and nine visitors. Colleen Dunn missed school, Colleen spent weekend with grandparents James and Mrs Dunn. Fred Dunn and wife celebrated 20th anniversary at James Dunn home.
Mr and Mrs Gust Falk hosted Mr and Mrs Adolph Forss and family and Arvid Peterson with daughter and Miss Margaret Anderson Monday evening. Mrs Falk’s birth and Amanda Krader’s death were noted. Krader died at her daughter Mrs Glenn Willitts home after illness. Funeral held Sunday in Polk after house service. Art Peterson visited Arvid Peterson over the weekend. No school Monday with Stromsburg immunizations for diphtheria. Adolph Forss attended Alda Peterson's funeral Wednesday. The Clay’s Thing play opens Friday at High Prairie with tickets selling well.
Mrs. O. F. Stickell entertained the H B H Bridge Club Tuesday afternoon. High score was won by Mrs. Donald Wieseman.
Announcement that The Gamble Stores will open a new Osceola outlet. A building on the east side of the square has been leased and will be ready for occupancy about March 1. Mr Owens of Wayne will manage the Osceola store after careful investigation.
Osceola beat Clarks 24 to 17 at Clarks' gym in a tight game. Pierson led Osceola with 13 points as the team pulled away in the third and fourth periods. The Osceola second unit won 22 to 11 behind Dalton's 14 points.
The Drama Department met at W. R. Kepner residence Friday evening with Miss Velma McCormick as host. Miss Louise Smith led a lesson on Amateur Play Production and announced the February 22 meeting at Miss Smith's home.
The Osceola Board of Education announces a diphtheria toxoid immunization program for students at the school on Monday February 18 starting at 9 am. Cost is 75 cents per child if at least 200 apply, with parental prepayment to the teacher. the district and board bear no liability for administration or results. Applications due by Friday February 15 to Superintendent W. E. Thompson.
Mrs. Lester McCormick and her infant daughter Hillis Ann were dismissed from Osceola Hospital. Mrs. Sophia Walford of Gresham underwent major surgery at Osceola Hospital performed by Dr. James of Columbus and Dr. Harley Eklund. Mrs. Lawrence Anderson of Swede Home had her tonsils removed by Dr. Eklund. Wayne Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Anderson, was confined to Osceola Hospital under Dr. R. L. Senroeder for several days.
Polk residents attended farewell parties and visited relatives across nearby towns. Notable events include the Anderson families moving to Rockford Illinois and multiple Sunday dinners and road trips to York Hampton Grand Island Aurora and Omaha.
Julius Andrew Johansen born in Foberg Denmark April 12 1861 died at home February 6 1935 aged 73 9 24 and came to America in 1874 homesteaded near Osceola Nebraska He married Elizabeth Schmoker January 20 1883 and left eight surviving children along with thirty five grandchildren and three great grandchildren He was county commissioner from 1918 to 1920 and a long time school director Funeral services were held at the family home conducted by Rev J W Stiverson with music by several local performers and burial in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
