Obituary of William Van Hoosen Dies in Burkett

William Van Hoosen born July 15, 1889 in Livingston County New York died in Burkett after a stroke. He served in the First Iowa Cavalry and later married Elizabeth McCure and Ida Elsworth, leaving six and four children respectively. Surviving are his wife, three daughters Mrs. McCormick and Mrs. Wesner and son C H Van Hoosen, plus two brothers and a sister. Grand Army Post conducted services with taps and military salute, burial at Osceola.

Guy Ball, a Record employee, suffered a serious hand injury Monday afternoon while feeding a large job press. Doctors say metacarpal bones are fractured and middle bones crushed, but the hand may be saved with potential stiffness. The incident involved the press chase and platen, with the throw off lever acting to prevent further damage.

Fire Damages Elledge Ice House Building

A morning fire at the Elledge ice house in the old creamery building caused substantial smoke and damage. Firefighters connected hoses to nearby vehicles, and the blaze was subdued after an oil lantern reignited the flames. damage is estimated above $50.

Sally M Woodm born 1833 in Wasiiiaw County Michigan moved with parents to LaPorte County in 1840 married George Rowley in 1854, two sons Amos and Albert.
