Mrs. Lester Spelts To Lead Polk Cancer Crusade Again
Mrs. Lester Spelts of Stromsburg will chair the Polk County Cancer Crusade for the American Cancer Society for a third year in April. Frederick H. Wagener announced the 1956 goal of 26 million nationally, with Nebraska at 163,923 and Nebraskans contributing 131,554 last year. Polk County raised 1 071.78 in 1955. Navy Carrier Oriskany Cruise Impresses Midwest Visitors
A writer and publisher toured the Essex class carrier Oriskany learning its 13 deck layout and crew of 2100 to 3500 during a week at sea. They witnessed day and night landings by jet pilots, 150 landings in one day, and noted dining and shows in both officer and enlisted messes.
