Osceola County to lease Mickey Mansion for museum

Osceola County officials expect a long term lease of the 11 room Mickey Mansion to the Polk County Historical Society for use as a county museum on hospital grounds in south Osceola. The move follows a suggestion by 91 year old Albert Ryan and aims for a June 1 Old Times Day dedication with fundraising and broader community support shaping the project.

Bulldogs Maintain Perfect Run as District Play Looms

Osceola improved to 16-0 with a 93-58 win at Polk, three games shy of an undefeated season. Coach Bartek’s Bulldogs prepare for district dates February 20 to 24 at Central City and a regional playoff February 28 at Columbus, with the state tourney March 9-11 at Lincoln in sight. Benedict man dead in Mishap near Stromsburg

Benedict man 46 died in an auto crash near Stromsburg early Friday morning. Sparling was alone in his car when it struck a power pole along highway 81 around 3 30 a m, police said.

FHA approves $82,000 loan for Polk County recreation area

The Farmers Home Administration announces an $82,000 insured loan to Polk County Recreation Association to develop a recreation area near Osceola. The funds cover purchasing 95 acres formerly used for feed grain and wheat and financing construction costs.

New Officers Named for Polk Soil and Water District

New officers for the Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District were elected at the meeting in the SWCD office. Raymond Burke of Stromsburg is chairman, Bob Bryan of Silver Creek is vice chairman, Maurice Newcomer of Gresham is secretary treasurer, with Richard Hiemer of Shelby and Rudolph Nyberg of Stromsburg joining the board. The Midland College band will give a short concert Feb. 10 at the OHS Auditorium.
