Polk and Osceola Win County Tournament
Polk High School won the silver trophy for the second straight year by defeating Osceola in the county tournament final. Osceola reserves beat Stromsburg reserves for the new trophy purchased this year as the finals drew about 600 fans. The event opened Wednesday with Stromsburg seconds defeating High Prairie, and Thursday saw Osceola teams win. Friday featured both Osceola teams losing to Polk in the finals.

Sterling Nelson, previously in York, moved to Stromsburg to work as commercial manager for Lincoln Telephone in Polk County. Paul and Mrs. Robinson welcomed daughter Donna on February 3. Diphtheria quarantine affects the Wesley Chapel parsonage with Mrs. Pengelly as the victim. The church aid hosted a lunch stand at the Elmer Lyons sale, netting 45 dollars. The Lyons sale was praised as one of the county’s greatest. The Lyons plan to move March 1 to Lexington Missouri. Obituary of John Gunnar Samuelson
John Gunnar Samuelson born January 9 1884 in York Nebraska died February 2 1934 at St Francis Hospital Grand Island at age 50 23. He moved with his family to Polk County Swede Home farm and stayed active in the Lutheran church. He married Adelia Johnson on March 24 1920 and had four children two died in infancy one son Carol died in August 1982 and Wallace aged nine survives. He left a widow a son two sisters Mrs Nels Holm and Mrs Ed Oberg of Swede Home and two brothers Shold Samuelson of Palmer and Warner Samuelson of Stromsburg. Funeral at Swede Home Church conducted by Rev C A Sward with interment in Swede Home Cemetery.

Local Shelby Residents Go About Week of Travel and Visits
Shelby residents and visitors traveled to Lincoln Omaha and Madison this week. Mr and Mrs Guy Hanshew and Oliver Strange visited Lincoln then Kansas City for Una Hanshew's hospital visit. Mrs Hanshew's train home joined by Mr Hanshew. Others visited Polk Stromsburg Blue Hill Council Bluffs and Glendale while caring for relatives in hospitals and attending family gatherings and a funeral.

A pageant titled Abraham Lincoln Speaks is planned for next Sunday night at 7 30 with an off stage voice describing Lincoln and his achievements. Readings include Abraham Lincoln Walks At Midnight by Jeanette Frasier and Markhemy's Lincoln Man Of The People read by Mrs R J Inness. Morris Scholz to recite the Gettysburg Address as Camp Fire Girls Legionnaires and Boy Scouts participate. A bugler will play the call and a youth chorus will open with the song service. Sunday School starts at 10 and the minister's sermon is The Educated Heart. The Ladies Aid meets Friday afternoon.
