School board approves new gym sound system and contracts
Osceola School Board on Monday night February 1 approved a new gym sound system with four front stage mics and two speaker banks to be installed before the March OHS musical. The meeting also reviewed teacher committee contract proposals for 1971 72 with no action taken and authorized a $2.50 per night custodial increase for activities in the auditorium. Mrs Loren Treffer and Mrs Ray Richards discussed forming a Band Mothers organization with Mr Rex Cadwallader. A special meeting January 14 offered contracts to Virgil Bugbee and Ken Sipes.

Osceola high school wrestling beat Leigh Panthers 41 13 on January 30 marking the Bulldogs first dual victory in their young program. Earlier a 36 18 loss to David City saw Duane Hahn pin Hascal to tie 13 8 before Andy Kresha gave Osceola the lead with a second pin. John Girard won 7 0 by decision in 98 lb and Mike Treffer pinned Russ Daro. Duane Hahn pinned Ed Birkel in 23 seconds.

Thurber Carnival a suite of James Thurber sketches will be presented by Osceola Community Theatre the weekend after Easter. At a Sunday meeting members chose Anne Davis as president Bill Zedicher vice president Vivian Carlson secretary and Eileen Blitzke treasurer. The group invites more help in acting sets costumes music and related tasks and play books will be available at the next meeting.
Gissler Night Honors Doane Player at Crete Game
Osceola Booster Club honored Doane senior Alan Gissler during halftime of the Doane vs Hastings College game in Crete on Saturday January 30. Gissler and teammate each scored 31 as Doane beat Hastings 104 to 88. About 60 Osceolans attended and later met at Seward for coffee and a game rehash.

Barry Hanson to Tour With Wayne State College Stage Band

Burgess Sent For Induction From Nebraska Towns
Larry Burgess of Stromsburg and son of Mr and Mrs Forrest Burgess of Osceola Nebraska was forwarded to Omaha for induction into the Armed Services. The Polk County board was not issued an induction call for February but arranged three for physical examinations.
