Frances Whaley reports a group of Osceola ladies visited in Lincoln last Wednesday seeking hand weaving loom setup details. She proposes several ideas but did not obtain names. If you are one of the visitors, contact The Record to relay information.
The Good Samaritan Center has started a fund to buy a motion picture projector and screen. A $25 donation from the Clear Creek Extension Club brings the total to $75. Donations support resident entertainment and staff training. send contributions to Mr. Jim Wunderlich at the Center.
Mighty Wolfe a four year old Appaloosa gelding owned by Dick Miller of Osceola finished third in the 4 years and older gelding Halter class at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. Shown by Jim Stephens of Council Bluffs Iowa, the entry numbered 24. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Miller Mr and Mrs Huck Rowan and Mr and Mrs Dick Watts.
Osceola Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop plan a paper drive in March with a tentative date of March 20. They will collect old newspapers for an ecology project and donate the paper to the Salvation Army. If pickups are needed earlier, contact Scout master Richard Odgers at 747-2672.
Charles A. Roberts, son of Mr and Mrs Martin Roberts, has passed the written portion of the Nebraska Embalming Examination and earned a license to practice as a funeral director. Under brother Joe Roberts supervision at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home he will continue in apprenticeship. The Polk County Feeders Association plans a reorganizing dinner Monday February 1 at Ryan Hill Country Club with a free steak dinner at 6 30 for past members and interested feeders. a $1 cover charge applies. Lydia Zimmerman underwent major surgery at Lutheran Hospital in Omaha while relatives from Grand Island visited. After completing the apprenticeship Charles will face an oral exam before the Bureau of Examining Boards.
Osceolans are invited to attend Alan Gissler Night at the Doane Hastings basketball game in Crete Saturday evening. A bus and cars will depart City Cafe at 6 p.m. for the 7 30 p.m. tip off.
The 30 part Drugs: A Z series begins Saturday evening January 30 at 6 25 p.m. on Channel 10. It aims to educate parents and children about drug dangers to curb abuse. The first programs cover Alcohol.
The Red Cross Bloodmobile in Osceola surpassed its 99 pint goal by collecting 103 pints though the visit was shortened by about an hour. Two donors were rejected. New 2 gallon and 3 gallon donors were recognized, and a Lions Club meeting noted reports from March of Dimes leaders and other activities. A list of all donors and volunteers appears elsewhere.
Vernon Kuhnel, American Legion Post Commander, met Osceola Chamber of Commerce at City Hall Monday evening January 25 to seek chamber help for upgrades to the baseball diamond including a new fence dugouts back stop and dirt and sand. The Chamber voted to assist. Also on the agenda were Farm Home Day tentatively set for March 9 and a Ladies Night later in the year.
Al Yungdahl and Raymond Watts of Builders Supply announced they purchased the Wobig Building from Tom Hofbauer this week. They are moving lumber and supplies and installing storage racks as they relocate stock and office to the new building.
Osceola area farmers are advised to watch for a mystery plane that will photograph local farms in the near future. Photos will appear weekly in the Osceola Record sponsored by various merchants. correctly identifying your home could win a free 8x10 enlargement.
Members of the Centennial Book Committee and the Adult Art Class will meet at City Hall on Wednesday February 3 at 7 30. Bernie Gissler urges full attendance as art class assists with chapter drawings for the book and offers transport if needed. The group seeks completed research and historical photos especially from 1920 onward.
Dean Gissler son of the Rolland A Gisslers of Central City has been named an alternate to the U S Air Force Academy by Senator Carl T Curtis of Nebraska. Principal and alternate were chosen on competitive exams from last year and high school records and activities. Dean is grandson of Mr and Mrs Rudolf Gissler of rural Osceola.
The Polk County Recreation Association elected three new directors at the general meeting on January 21 at Ryan Hill Country Club. George Cemper Shelby Dave Rutter Osceola and Larry Cook Stromsburg join replacing Burdette Flodman Stromsburg Mike Jones Osceola and Wayne Ruth Rising City. The by law change lets the board elect its own officers next meeting. Walt Larson remains temporary manager and a full time manager is sought. Dues stay at 75 for initial membership 50 golf 25 social. Note change Boy Scouts meet 1 30 Saturday January 30 instead of February 1.
Osceola Bulldogs defeat Genoa Orioles 61 57 in the final to claim the Goldenrod Conference championship led by Bob Gissler with 27 points. Earlier wins over Silver Creek 77 54 and Stromsburg 63 40, plus Gissler’s 69 playoff points, cement their title run.
