Polk County farmers receive new farm implements program
Polk County farmers are allotted 134 new farm implements to meet 1943 food production goals. Allocations include hogs 12 140 head cattle 8080 milk 36 820 000 lbs eggs 1 665 000 chickens 409 930 corn 938 598 acres and wheat 35 610 acres. A carload of Otoe oats will be shipped to Russia with seed tags for Russian relief. Cpl Louis J Birkel, 21, son of Mr and Mrs Joe Birkel, was inducted July 25 1942 and is at Camp Davis North Carolina.
