Christmas was fittingly observed in Osceola churches with a Swedish church service at 6 AM and a children’s program Monday evening. Presbyterian services were postponed to Sunday evening due to weather, while Friday’s Methodist program featured songs recitations and a cantata by the choir. The event drew praise for preparation and beauty.
Beatrice voters defeat by about two to one a proposal to issue revenue bonds for Municipal Light plant financing from Denver Corporation. The result follows concerns over higher cost, unlimited debt, and promoter control during bond repayment, affecting Beatrice's local authority.
A Methodist church invites all to begin 1927 with a full hour of worship and Sunday School. The week features Calm Church School, Morning Worship at 1 AM, Epworth League at 6 30 PM, and Evening Worship at 6 40 PM. W E Pratt family guests included C F Mitchell and daughter of Lincoln Dr W Pratt of Craig and Harry Pratt of Osceola.
Mr Thompson sold the Stromsburg grocery on the square to Mickey Van Dorn and David Walline. Van Dorn has long hardware store experience. Walline is a carpenter. The new firm is expected to begin strong locally.

Mrs Anna Jeffrey longtime Osceola resident died at home aged 69 years and 27 days Born December 27 1858 in Fairview Indiana she came to Nebraska with husband Frank M Jeffrey February 14 1878 They settled near Osceola later moving to town in 1886 Survived by two sons Jesse H Jeffrey of Lincoln and Dr Charles W Jeffrey of Rawlins Wyoming and two grandchildren Four of six children predeceased her Funeral services were led by Rev Handel Collier at the M E Church Osceola with interment in Osceola cemetery Preservation of church faith and pioneer memories noted in tribute to a devoted mother and citizen
Early morning fire at 2 30 a m in Stromsburg Bakery caused extensive damage. Chief Ed Laurman discovered the flames and alerted the firemen who contained the blaze. Earl Jones operated the bakery and restaurant. J A Anderson owner of the building had no insurance. Repairs planned once insurance for equipment is adjusted.
The boy scout troop presented their scoutmaster Rev. Skinner with a Christmas gift a flashlight at Thursday night’s meeting. Edith Andersor and Florence Anderson spent Christmas with their parents in the area. Mrs. Elsie Lobough resigns her Polk teaching post. Mrs. Julius Sundbert elected. Edwin Swanson returns home from Lodgepole for Christmas. Dr and Mrs. Westfall attend Samuel Westfall’s funeral in Kearney. Chester Lind and family visit relatives in town. Bert Sherwood undergoes appendix operation in Columbus. Lindburg family hosting visitors from California Harvard and Silver Creek. Mrs John Seymour and daughter visit Omaha relatives.

Benjamin Franklin Scott born September 4 1854 near Bloomfield Davis County Iowa died December 23 1926 at 72 years 38 months 19 days He lived on farms taught school and ran a grocery and drug business in Courtland and Lincoln Nebraska He married Emma M A Baum January 3 1878 and is survived by his wife five children and two brothers.

Olson of Stromsburg has shown a Swedish language travel book of about 400 pages in Osceola The book describes his journeys in foreign lands and has been in strong demand at the Stromsburg public library. Olson plans to donate a copy to the Osceola library for Swedish readers in the area. Mrs. E. P. Pike visits with her daughter Mrs. Oscar Jones at Polk.
