Bulldogs tacked 3rd win under OHS Christmas tree

The OHS Bulldogs secured their third win of the season 55 to 51 over Silver Creek. Led by Jim Carlson with 21 points and 17 rebounds and Colin McKeag with 13 points and 11 boards, the team trailed early but surged in the second half amid turnovers and a pressurized defense. The team heads to the Raymond Central holiday tournament on December 27 and 28 with Palmyra and Weeping Water also listed.

R Richard C Sealey a Polk County farmer was reelected to the Polk County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee by delegates at the ASC county convention on December 14 1971 He was named Chairman with Paul N Walgren as Vice Chairman and F A Donelson as the third member The newly elected committee takes office January 1 1972 Also named were Marvin L Dawes as 1st Alternate and Leo Cockson as 2nd Alternate The county panel oversees local administration of government farm programs including allotments loans and conservation cost sharing

Senkbeil Home Wins Christmas Lighting Contest

A panel of judges selected the Arthur Senkbeil home as first prize in the Christmas lighting contest co sponsored by Nebraska Public Power and the Osceola Chamber of Commerce. The Johansen brothers Bill and Jinx took second and third, Lavern Miller’s home was fourth, with cash prizes available at First National Bank.

Osceola Educator Attends NSEA Delegate Assembly

Ken Sipes of Osceola High School represented the Osceola Education Association as one of 440 delegates at the 105th NSEA Delegate Assembly December 10 and 11 at the Hilton Hotel in Omaha. The gathering sets policy for Nebraska's 18,800 member union. Major topics included state aid to education continuing contracts professional negotiations and political action.

Jim Pulliam won $100 in scrip at the Chamber of Commerce drawing held last Saturday. Other $10 winners included Glen Anderson Mrs Don Kreis Mrs Merle Runquist Mrs Ina Mangelsen and Mrs Don Gabriel. Osceola Schedule for Holiday Tourneys

Osceola High School will compete in three days of postseason action between Christmas and New Year. On Monday December 27 the basketball team faces Weeping Water at 7 p.m. and Central meets North Bend at 8:45 p.m. Consolation and championship games follow at 7 and 8:45 p.m. Tuesday hosts more holiday games. On Thursday December 30 the Osceola wrestling squad travels to York for a nine team event starting at 9 a.m. Osceola enters every weight class except heavyweight.

McClain Boy wins trophy at Chief’s football banquet

Donald McClain ten year old son of T/Sgt and Mrs. B J McClain earned a trophy for outstanding ball playing at the Chief’s football banquet on December 6. He played three line positions and spoke on What Football Means To Me. This is his second year with the Chief ball team. He is grandson of Mrs Helen Gabriel and nephew of the Don Gabriels of Osceola.

The cast of A Christmas Carol voted to give $100 from ticket sales to the World Herald Good Fellows fund. A check for $100 was sent. The play was directed by Miss Eileen Blitzkie and MC'd by Arnold Dowling.

Stromsburg Tops OHL Wrestling 33 27 in Dual Meet

Stromsburg defeated OHL wrestlers 33 to 27 after overcoming a 21 3 deficit. Top weights led with five wins in the upper classes as Stromsburg's four state finalists return. OHS cites depth and two upcoming duals Leigh Jan 29 and East Butler Feb 1 and Goldenrod Conference Feb 5 at the auditorium.

Hot lunch prices rise for students and adults January 3

When school reconvenes on January 3, hot lunch prices will be 40 cents for students and 50 cents for adults. Special milk remains 3 cents. The program has run red and received district subsidies. an earlier planned increase was halted during a price freeze.

Alvin R Cederberg received special recognition for academic achievement in Mechanical Engineering. They visited the Alvin Cederberg home after the reception in the Student Union.
