After months of searching the oxygen line leak at Howard County Hospital was finally located. The source was a faulty joint in the line within the wall to the nursery room, and the line was filled with water to reveal the problem.
A South Sioux City group left yesterday for Phoenix to dismantle a 2600 seat grandstand at Sportsman's Park in Arizona City. The structure was bought by the Akotud Agriculture and Racing Association for the new South Sioux track, as reported by The Dakota County Star.
A Monday night break in at Johnson Hardware left a shotgun, firearms, radios and appliances stolen after forcing a back door. A Herman area farmhouse burned early Saturday waking a six member family and allowing them to escape with their lives. A year old cried out as parents rescued children from an upstairs window. The David City Hospital received a $10 000 Ford Foundation grant aiding private colleges and hospitals.
Nebraska power heads met in Washington with REA officials to discuss a proposed power plant south of Lexington and a potential loan. REA cannot fund the full cost since the plant serves city and rural customers. Also debated was a 1956 57 loan Consumers seeks to bolster its system.
Mrs. Lloyd Hoffman Jr of Omaha returned home after surgery at Mayo Clinic Rochester with Dr Eklund and Mrs W H Fulwider also traveling from Omaha. The Happy Birthday Club held a Christmas party at Mrs Jack Tindall with six members present and officers elected. Various local residents were discharged from Osceola or hospital care, and several families hosted or attended holiday gatherings at homes in Osceola and nearby York, with notes on students and visitors from Hastings and University.
Christmas falls on a Sunday and St. Vincent Church will host a High Mass at midnight with the Mass of the Immaculate Conception and a choir recital. A Low Mass follows on Christmas Day at 10:00 am with traditional hymns and benediction.
Social Center School District 37 will present its annual Christmas program under teacher Mrs Clyde Smith. The show starts at eight o clock this Thursday evening December 22.

Interment was made in Osceola cemetery Monday December 19 for Mrs Hulda Scharton of Lincoln who died December 16 at age 70 She was known here as Mrs Nels Nelson after moving to Lincoln about 30 years ago following Mr Nelsons death Funeral services were held that morning at a Lincoln mortuary
S W Calhoun local agent for Union Pacific marked fifty years of service with a banquet at Grand Island. He received a 50 year button and emblem at the Old Timers Christmas party in the depot Red Cross room. E H Pritchard of Sumner also received a similar button. Mrs Calhoun and Mrs Pritchard were given buttons and a bouquet for the milestone.
The Clear Creek Homemakers Club held a Christmas party Saturday at the Arthur Johansen home with husbands as guests. Card games and prize awards dominated the evening with separate high and low prizes for specific members. A door prize went to Mrs. Wm. aax and lunch was served as secrets were shared in a gift exchange. The next meeting is set for January 18 at Mrs. Hubert Jaax’s home.
Master Sergeant and Mrs. F W McFadden welcome a baby boy born Tuesday December 20 at Itazuki Air Force Base Japan. The infant weighs seven pounds four ounces. The McFaddens already have two daughters.
Mrs. John Mulgrue and Colleen of Lincoln were weekend guests of Mrs. Addie Wieseman. Colleen stayed on as a guest this week. Mrs. Christine Jenkins of Stromsburg was a Sunday guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Bill Zedicher.
The Osceola Chamber of Commerce announces stores will close at 6 00 p m on Saturday December 24 and Saturday December 31 and close the next two Mondays for Christmas and New Year observances. Friday night December 23 remains open for late shopping. after each 6 00 p m closing the next business day is Tuesday.

Funeral services are held for Hugh Dornan of Shelby, 62, who died December 19 at Columbus Hospital. Rev. R W Garrison of the Evangelical United Brethren Church will conduct the 2:00 p m service at the Shelby church with interment in Shelby cemetery.
Mr and Mrs August Senn learned their son Francis was promoted to Airman First Class at Westover Air Force Base Massachusetts this week.
Miss Betty Jo Quick of Baltimore returned Saturday evening for a two week vacation with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Quick. Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Posusta of Grand Island visited Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Noble on Sunday. Miss Sharon Berck of Denver arrived Tuesday evening to spend the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Berck.
The Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital received gifts in memory of Thomas Mills and Susan Whaley totaling over 3500 dollars. Contributions include 88 dollars from four donors M. W. Peterson Osceola Mrs Frank Trobaugh West Frankport Illinois Susan Brannigan and Oliver E Buckley Maplewood New Jersey. Buckley heads Bell laboratories. A 750 dollar memorial from Mr and Mrs M A Mills Sr Osceola was designated for a hospital room.
Mrs. Stella Swertzie was honored on her 79th birthday at the Lawrence Gdwoski home near Fullerton on Sunday afternoon. Attendees from Omaha and nearby towns included the Swertzie and Gdwoski families, Stanczyk and Armatus relations, and friends. A late lunch featured a birthday cake baked by Mrs. Stanczyk.

Osceola swept both varsity and reserve games at Silver Creek Friday night. Varsity won 70 to 58 led by Leroy Dinges and Jan Grossnicklaus with 20 each. Reserve triumphed 50 to 36. Osceola improves to five straight wins for the varsity.
Garden Club met Tuesday evening December 13 at Mrs. IF Monson’s home with Mrs. Roy Morgan assisting. Members contributed to the Christmas program and viewed LeMoyne Monson’s Alaska travel pictures. Margaret Crosby won a Santa Claus drawing. Mrs. Fred Bond won a Christmas package. Gifts exchanged. lunch served. January meeting will install new officers.
Eight crane fledglings plus twenty adult cranes arrive at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on the gulf of Mexico. This marks the largest return of young whoopers since the refuge’s 20 year history with one adult still unaccounted for.
