After months of searching the oxygen line leak at Howard County Hospital was finally located. The source was a faulty joint in the line within the wall to the nursery room, and the line was filled with water to reveal the problem.

South Sioux City group heads to Arizona to dismantle grandstand

A South Sioux City group left yesterday for Phoenix to dismantle a 2600 seat grandstand at Sportsman's Park in Arizona City. The structure was bought by the Akotud Agriculture and Racing Association for the new South Sioux track, as reported by The Dakota County Star.

Burglary at Johnson Hardware and Farm Fire Near Hermans

A Monday night break in at Johnson Hardware left a shotgun, firearms, radios and appliances stolen after forcing a back door. A Herman area farmhouse burned early Saturday waking a six member family and allowing them to escape with their lives. A year old cried out as parents rescued children from an upstairs window. The David City Hospital received a $10 000 Ford Foundation grant aiding private colleges and hospitals.

Nebraska power chiefs discuss Lexington area plant loan

Nebraska power heads met in Washington with REA officials to discuss a proposed power plant south of Lexington and a potential loan. REA cannot fund the full cost since the plant serves city and rural customers. Also debated was a 1956 57 loan Consumers seeks to bolster its system.

Osceola Club Notes Health Trip and Christmas Events

Mrs. Lloyd Hoffman Jr of Omaha returned home after surgery at Mayo Clinic Rochester with Dr Eklund and Mrs W H Fulwider also traveling from Omaha. The Happy Birthday Club held a Christmas party at Mrs Jack Tindall with six members present and officers elected. Various local residents were discharged from Osceola or hospital care, and several families hosted or attended holiday gatherings at homes in Osceola and nearby York, with notes on students and visitors from Hastings and University.

Fifty Years Service Climaxed At Banquet

S W Calhoun local agent for Union Pacific marked fifty years of service with a banquet at Grand Island. He received a 50 year button and emblem at the Old Timers Christmas party in the depot Red Cross room. E H Pritchard of Sumner also received a similar button.
