Gsrah Florence Stevens born September 16 1867 in Hannah Laporte Indiana died November 16 1915 at age 48. She moved with her family to Osceola Nebraska in 1879 and married George H Stevens on October 8 1884. They had nine children Herbert J Stanley Edgar Z Freg R Eva M Leslie G Laura P Essie Dell and Effie Fern all residents of the county. Surviving are one brother EB M Martin Alliance Nebraska two sisters Mrs J H Bilis Hanibal Missouri and Miss Maude Martin Lincoln Nebraska and many grieving friends. The funeral was held at the home last Thursday at one o clock Rev Foreman of Ewing officiated. Interment Lambert Cemetery next to her husband. The community offers heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family. Bright's Disease was listed as a cause. she had been in apparent good health prior to death. Mrs Giles Cole dies at home of her son Frank in Osceola at 7 o clock Saturday evening December 18. Funeral held at Presbyterian church at 2 30 this afternoon conducted by Rev E M Reed with Rebekahs in charge, interment in Osceola cemetery. Born Margaret Ann Matthews in Wisconsin December 12 1860, she moved with family to Trenton Missouri then to York County Nebraska in 1873 near Gresam. She married Giles Cole December 25 1877. they lived in Osceola. Survived by husband, one son Frank Cole and five grandchildren. Also survived by three children born, two sons William and Frank. William died 1914. She endured cancer years, underwent operation at David City hospital. She was active in Rebekahs and Presbyterian church, remembered as a good woman. The Polk County pioneer’s death closes a long record of friendship and community service.
The family expresses gratitude to the Rebekahs and friends for kindness during the illness and death of their wife and mother Ciles Cole. Frank Cole and Family.
Mrs Mary Swartwood formerly Mrs Alexander Shank died at her Silver Creek home yesterday at noon after a brief illness. She was 77 or 78. Funeral plans were not set. She leaves twelve children six sons Link Harm Edward Fred Frank Dan and a daughter Jane Dean of Florence Colorado. Siblings Henry Lohr Puente California Ben Lohr Portland Oregon Joshua Finecy Beulah and Rachel Jarshberger Pennsylvania survive. Her first husband Alexander Shank died twenty years ago this January and her second husband William Swartwood died last fall.
Saturday night Glen Willetts was struck by an auto while driving a bugey about a mile from his home. The buggy was badly damaged and Willetts suffered only slight injuries. He was between two cars and, blinded by glare, could not tell which way to go. The driver’s name is unknown. Victrolas and Gretagows at Ray's.
