Osceola Bulldogs Win Over Shelby Then Fall to Stromsburg

Osceola split two games last week, beating Shelby 56-45 with a 22 point fourth quarter and losing a close Goldenrod Conference opener to Stromsburg 76-74. Cerny led with 15 points, Gabriel 10, and Nelson 9. Bulldogs forced 38 Shelby turnovers and shot 33 percent, while Stromsburg edged them with a late rally as Westring scored 32 for the Vikings.

Welfare Director Attends National Welfare Roundtable

Polk County Welfare Director Deryl Reed joined 20 Nebraskans at the American Public Welfare Association National Roundtable in Dallas. The week long convening discussed past laws and future welfare plans including a possible federal administration of the program. About 1500 attendees from all states attended the event.

Osceola students dismissed early for Christmas holiday

Osceola Elementary pupils leave at 2 p.m. and high school students at 2 10 p.m. on Tuesday December 23 for the Christmas break. School resumes Monday January 5, 1970. Booster Club raises funds including bake sale proceeds of about 115 dollars to start an electric scoreboard fund. Winners of last Saturday's Christmas Cash were Mrs. Max Simonsen 40 dollars Mrs. Glen I Anderson 30 dollars Calmar Boden 20 dollars. This Saturday December 20 three more winners to be named. Farm Meetings Termed Success and More Scheduled

Polk County Extension Service reports three successful meetings for corn and sorghum producers with topics on herbicides insecticides diseases and soil fertility. Osceola Woman Wins Stromsburg Christmas Jackpot

Mrs. Gregg Abbott of Osceola won $500 in Stromsburg's Christmas drawing for Swede Scrip, redeemable at local businesses. She had also secured $40 in Osceola Christmas Scrip two weeks earlier.

At the state meeting in Omaha last week Warren Umshler of Chadron was named Vice President elect of the Association of Clerks of the District Court. She served the past year as secretary treasurer and has filed for re election for Clerk of the District Court in Dawes County.

Mrs. Augustin Named Mom of Year in Columbus Club Honor

Mrs Wayne Augustin of Osceola was named Mother of the Year by the Twice Blessed Mother of Twins Club in Columbus. Her 11 year old twins LeeRay and LuAnn, fifth graders in Osceola public schools, were part of the club's Christmas party vote.

Delegates Attend Nat s NFO Meet in Louisville

The Polk County NFO sent seven delegates to the national convention in Louisville Kentucky held December 10 11 Delegates included Mr and Mrs Vern Berck Mr and Mrs Max Rystrom Bill Beebe Kenny Donelson and Bob Baker Secretary of Agriculture Clifford M Hardin spoke to about 12000 delegates from the continental 48 states urging price adjustments for wheat and feed grain to stay competitive Hardin noted the need to lower prices while another NFC grain department rep highlighted how much meat would be needed to balance U S production if all imported red meat and idle land were used plus carryover wheat still fell short of national red meat consumption.
