Propane use and farm costs shed light on big business

Doane Tigers win NIAC tourney as Gissler earns all tourney nod

Doane College coach Bob Erickson celebrated his 100th and 101st wins as the Doane Tigers captured the NIAC Basketball Tournament at Midland Fremont. Al Gissler led the effort with 23 and 19 points in two nights and was named to the All-Tourney team as Doane defeated Midland 94 82 and Wesleyan 65 54 for the title.

Bulldogs Open Season with 62 40 Win Over Lakeview

Osceola Bulldogs stun Lakeview High 62 40 to start season behind a tight full court press and 48 rebounds led by Duane Gabriel with 16 points and Jerry Cerny with 15. Lakeview’s Steve McWilliams tops their scoring with 12. Gissler pulls 13 rebounds for Osceola.

Osceola events set for December include tax help and bake sale

A state tax office representative will assist at the Polk County Judge’s office on December 11 from 9 30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for tax problems. The 1969 C R O P grain donation dedication occurs December 16 at Smith’s Grain Osceola with Rev Richard Staple present. Booster events include bake sale December 13 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to fund an electric scoreboard and booster blazer orders December 10. Voter filings add two candidates for 1970 primary. Nebraskaland Calendars are available from the State Capitol.

Elsie Cerny Wins Final Armchair QB Contest

Elsie Cerny wins this year’s final Armchair Quarterback Contest. A $5 merchandise certificate is sent by Osceola merchants. She won by a tie breaker predicting a smaller numerical point spread than Judge Eldon Johnson who tied on correct answers.

Ray Conrad Resigns From Polk County Fair Board

Ray Conrad of Osceola submitted his resignation from the Polk County Fair Board effective January 1 after 13 years on the board including one year as president and 12 as secretary. No replacement for secretary has been chosen. At a recent meeting new officers were elected Henry Galus president Bob Tooker vice president Allen Anderson treasurer. The board voted to join the Nebraska Rodeo Association, to hold a two day rodeo at the 1970 fair produced by Warren Papstein of Norfolk, and a carnival contract was signed.
