Walter J. Herbes Dies in California at 86
Funeral services were held in California for Walter J. Herbes 86 who died December 9 after months in hospital. A former Nebraska newspaper man he edited and published the Osceola Record from 1926 to 1947 before moving to California about 15 years ago. Survivors include son Howard of Selma and daughters Maxine and Zona, both of Burbank.

New FmHA Program Guarantees Rural Housing Loans
The Farmers Home Administration announced a new program to guarantee up to 90 percent of principal and interest on rural housing loans made by local private lenders. Eligible borrowers have moderate income and must meet adjusted gross income limits, with loan guarantees covering up to 97 percent for first 25,000 and 95 percent thereafter. Fink Named Polk County Sheriff After Peterson Resigns
Deputy Sheriff Ronald Fink was appointed Polk County Sheriff at the December 7 meeting, with resignation of Sheriff Reynold Peterson effective January 1, 1977.
