Superintendent Clam W Walker releases Christmas events and vacation dates. School closes for a 2:00 p m December 23 break and resumes January 3, 1955. A December 21 operetta by evrades precedes the Munduizal group openance and a Teachers' Party at Crete Cafe on September 16.

L D Moffitt, the contractor, says weather holds the schedule, steel and floor joists to follow as winter approaches. brick crews and the contractor express optimism about the design and practicality of the structure.
Betty Jo Quick began duties as Stenographer Clerk at the Polk County Welfare Office on December 1. Miss Quick recently completed a business course at the Grand Island Business College.
The Calvary Lutheran Choir will present a Christmas Concert at Swede Home church on Sunday evening December 19 at 7 30 p m Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy the seasonal program.
St. Vincent Church hosted its annual Christmas party with a program, treats, and lunch for parishioners. The parish board for next year includes Otto Brabec and Louis Lisko as lay trustees with Leonard Mrkvicka and Raymond Schott as committeemen. Joseph Schott joins the building fund committee. Altar Society officers for next year are Mrs. Joe Schott as president, Mrs. Everette Smith as vice president, Mrs. D. Schmo ker as secretary, and Mrs. Gerhardt Lux as treasurer.
The Osceola Volunteer Fire Department sponsors a Disaster Unit display in Osceola on Friday December 17 at 11 a.m. The Nebraska Motors Carriers unit offers 16 stretcher positions a hospital tent 22 cots full medical and surgical supplies and disaster response equipment with two way police radio and on site operations HQ. Firefighters will assist in demonstrations and urge residents to view the facilities for disaster response.
Polk county sheriff Willard Cornell issues a notice restricting 1955 car licenses for residents with delinquent personal taxes dating to 1953 or earlier. Unpaid taxes may force drivers to halt vehicle use or face arrest when 1954 plates expire next year.
The Chamber of Commerce sponsors a free Christmas show for school age children at the Muse Theatre Saturday afternoon. The program includes a full-length feature Tarzan's Peril and three color cartoons, running about one hour forty five minutes starting at 2:00 PM. Admission is free for all school age viewers.
Osceola dropped two games to Stromsburg and Rising City last week. Stromsburg beat Osceola 48 to 38 as Jan Grossnicklaus led Stromsburg with 20 points while LeRoy Dinges scored three for Osceola. In the Rising City tilt Osceola lost 51 to 50 with Dinges again top scorer at 23 and Grossnicklaus adding 15 as Osceola led most of the contest. The reserve squad won 49 to 27 over Stromsburg with Jim Lewis the top scorer.
Mrs. Harry Brazee left Sunday for Texas due to the illness of her father Rev W W Alverson who died Monday. Rev Alverson was a former pastor in Osceola.
A drilling rig marks the site of Osceola’s new south town water well. The well sits about 200 feet deep with a 300 gallon per minute flow. Sand samples are tested by the state and expected to be approved. The well will increase south Osceola water pressure and be tied into the system soon.
E C Nordlund, Polk county savings bond chair, reports Polk county November purchases of series E and H bonds at 39,419 dollars. Eleven month total for 1954 reaches 936,981 dollars, 152.8 percent of the annual goal. Nebraska ranks first nationally in quota attainment with November state sales at 6,875,089 dollars and eleven month total of 104,979,409 dollars for 111.3 percent. National November sales set a record since 1945. January-November sales are the highest in nine years.
The St Andrew Church plans its annual parish Christmas party in the parish hall on Sunday December 19 at 8 pm. Election of corporation lay trustees and committeemen. Ride-A-Wees gathers at Mary Gerdes' home this evening. Osceola Project Club hosts a Christmas luncheon at Mrs George Berck's home on Tuesday December 21 with a gift drive for shut ins.
The Closing Committee announces Osceola retail stores will stay open Thursday night December 23 to aid last minute shoppers. Stores close Friday at 6:00 PM for Christmas Eve and reopen Monday morning after Christmas weekend.
