Lynn Arden Newcomer son of Mr and Mrs Charles Newcomer of Osceola married Elizabeth Jones of Zanesville Ohio The ceremony was conducted by Rev Mansfield of the Ohio Synod United Presbyterian Church The bride wore hunter green velvet and gardenias The couple will reside in Zanesville after a southern wedding trip both are graduates of local schools and Newcomer is employed in Zanesville with Clarkburg Paper Co.

An old wooden bench in front of the First National Bank in Osceola was removed this week. Built more than 25 years ago, the bench carried a history of local gatherings and discussions. A new iron or steel bench may replace it, but the old shade remains a memory.

About 260 plates were served at the annual high school football banquet in the high school auditorium Tuesday evening. Major L. M. C. Jones praised the Nebraska Cornhuskers and called the season long, interesting, and satisfying. Prof. R. D. Scott, University of Nebraska athletics chair, also spoke, lauding the university. The high school band, directed by Ralph Granere, performed, and Coach Bosserman awarded letters to the 1937 squad.

The Womens Civic Improvement Club held its annual Christmas party at Scott Hall with singing, piano, and a reading led by Mrs. W M Scott. Marie Eck ley and Edna Eck ley plan to operate a store in California. Eck ley residence leased for two years by G Eckstrand family. Mrs Chas Morrill of Scotts Bluffs visited Scotts Bluff area. Arthur Morrill and wife returned from a two day agriculture meeting in Lincoln. Mrs Parker died at 85 after a paralytic stroke. services held at home and Edwin L Anderson Funeral Home with burial in Iowa. Survived by two sisters, one brother Henry of Stromsburg, and two daughters.

Osceola Man among President Hoover stranded passengers
Lloyd Timm of Osceola was aboard the Pacific liner President Hoover when it ran aground near Hoishoto Island. Rescue ships approached as passengers were moved to Hayake and nearby islands. The ship carried about 408 crew and an estimated 600 passengers including first class and steerage travelers.

J. J. Bills of Polk won first prize with his Club Mariout Barley and third prize with Brunker Oats at the small grain show held by Organized Agriculture at the Agriculture College in Lincoln last week. Over 500 samples were exhibited as results announced by D L Gross, secretary of the Nebraska Crop Growers Association.

Three Hurt In Collision Near Madison Nebraska
Three people were injured when a car collided with a northbound Union Pacific freight train near Madison Nebraska. Willard Reineccius was knocked unconscious and suffered severe cuts. Rilma Shank had two fractured ribs and a bruised arm. Mrs. Fred Shank had a cut leg. The car was dragged about 50 feet by the train after impact. The Shanks were en route from Madison to Columbus. Train crew said the crossing signal was given.
