Polk County Tenant Purchase Loans Open Under Bankhead Jones Act

The Secretary of Agriculture selects Polk County for farm tenant loans to buy and develop farms under the Bankhead Jones Farm Tenant Act. About five loans may be extended if good land is available. Applications available from County Supervisor Walter W. Berck in Osceola Nebraska and at the Osceola Post Office, due by January 5, 1938.

Maple Leaf Club Elects Officers At December Meeting

Maple Leaf Club met December 2 at Mrs Addie Wieseman home with 13 members and 10 visitors. Harriet Fisher was elected president Martha Wyman vice president Monica Schott secretary and Goldie Bond treasurer. Mrs Hinck of Columbus spoke on beauty culture. The group plans a Christmas exchange and invites each member to bring one guest. A lunch was served. The next meeting is December 16 with Mary Gross nicklaus hosting.

Fairview and Valley M ietiodist Churches Get Together

Rev and Mrs Hamilton dined with Mr and Mrs Fisher and two boys at their Valley home. Men chopped wood for church and parsonage at Fairview Tuesday. Sunday services set for Fairview 10 am and Valley 11 20 am with Mr Hamilton speaking. Valley 10 am Sunday School and Fairview 11 am. Valley program enjoyed get together Friday night with Leon Merrick sing and Maxine Brooks violin. A musical contest led by Mrs LeRoy Rhodes entertained all. Lunch of sandwiches cookies and coffee served and attendees left eager to return next month.

Christmas plans at Presbyterian Church with cantata

Sunday School at 10 a m. Merry Workers meet Thursday for a Christmas gathering with a covered dish lunch. The Gresham Presbyterian Church choir of twenty five voices will present a Christmas cantata at our church. Watch for the date as plans for a Christmas service unfold.

Polk Willits Williams Unite In Belville Kansas Wedding

Sara Willits daughter of Clair and Mrs Willits of near Clarks and Billy Williams son of Mr and Mrs R B Williams were wed in Belville Kansas on Friday November 26. Bride a High Prairie High School class of 1933 graduate and groom a Polk High School class of 1933 graduate. They plan to reside with the groom’s parents east of Polk.

Osceola Community Club held its 4-H recognition banquet on December 1. Stull Corner 4-H Club led by Arthur Deeter and Jolly Workers 4-H Club led by Mrs. Arvid Peterson received top honors with silver Loving Cup and pins after 100 percent completion. County Agent F B Kelly reported the year’s club work while Howard Peterson of Oakland was welcomed as the new county agent.

Obituary: Edmund Gabel 65 Polk County Farmer dies

Edmund Gabel 65 a Polk County farmer resident since 1913 was found dead at his Shelby area home. Death blamed on heart trouble with prior high blood pressure and heart attacks. Survived by wife seven children one brother two sisters and seventeen grandchildren. Funeral at Sacred Heart Church Shelby officiated by Rev O Boyle with burial in parish cemetery.
