Christmas Scrip Winners Named

The first Christmas drawing of 1977 by the Osceola Chamber of Commerce drew a crowd despite cold weather. Winners received scrip totaling 200 dollars with four 25 dollar prizes and many 10 dollar prizes. a final drawing is planned for December 21. County Farmers Elect 1978 ASC Community Committeemen

Polk County agricultural producers have elected their 1978 ASC community committeemen. Delegates will convene December 15 at 1:30 p.m. to elect a county committeeman for three years and two alternates for one year, plus 1978 chairman and vice chairman. The convention is open to the public.

1978 Set Aside and NCA Rules Announced by Bergland

Secretary of Agriculture Bob Bergland announced final rules for set aside and normal crop acreage for 1978. Grazing permitted on set aside six months, with a six month non grazing period between February 28 and November. NCA crops include listed staples with additions from state committees. Cross compliance updated so price support for sugar beets and cane does not depend on set aside compliance. Comments on measures invited. set aside rules apply to wheat corn barley and grain sorghum.
