Polk County Conservation Family Named for 1969 Honor
At the joint Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District and Extension Service meeting, Nettie Carlson and Ellsworth Carlson and Gordon Carlson and Mrs. Carlson of Stroms he were named the Out ag Conservation Family of Polk County for 1969. The award cites their irrigation and water control system on a 160 acre farm with 93 acres irrigated, 5500 feet of diversions, contour bench leveling, and two runoff ponds. Ellsworth Carlson is Nebraska’s Weed and Seed chief. Gordon Carlson operates a Grade A dairy with 100 acres cropland and 50 acres pasture. the Holstein herd numbers 40. The award was presented November 25 at Ryan Hill Club with sponsor support from Citizens State Bank and Farmers Co op Grain Association of Pork. The 14th annual Conserva tion Family award honors notable conservation work in Polk County.
