Mary Buresh and Lynn Wurdeman of Columbus announce their engagement. Bride's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Henry Buresh of Osceola. groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wurdeman of Columbus. Mary, a 1966 Osceola High School graduate, plans April wedding and works at Consumers Public Power District. Lynn, a 1965 Columbus High graduate, works at A. Glenn Kluck Feed Lots.
At the joint Polk County Soil and Water Conservation District and Extension Service meeting, Nettie Carlson and Ellsworth Carlson and Gordon Carlson and Mrs. Carlson of Stroms he were named the Out ag Conservation Family of Polk County for 1969. The award cites their irrigation and water control system on a 160 acre farm with 93 acres irrigated, 5500 feet of diversions, contour bench leveling, and two runoff ponds. Ellsworth Carlson is Nebraska’s Weed and Seed chief. Gordon Carlson operates a Grade A dairy with 100 acres cropland and 50 acres pasture. the Holstein herd numbers 40. The award was presented November 25 at Ryan Hill Club with sponsor support from Citizens State Bank and Farmers Co op Grain Association of Pork. The 14th annual Conserva tion Family award honors notable conservation work in Polk County.

Final season contest appeared in last week’s Record and entries due by 5 p.m. Friday December 5.
Polk County Extension Service announces six corn and milo programs for farmers at diverse locations and times. Agent Ken Krieg warns against complacency amid a strong crop and rising costs, urging farmers to gather reliable information on insects weeds fertility and diseases.
The OHS music department under Rex Cadwallader presents a Christmas concert Tuesday December 16 in the auditorium. Army Private First Class Raymond E. Zelazny of Silver Creek is with the 25th Infantry near CuChi Vietnam as a tracked-vehicle driver since October 24.
