Polk County Dairy Breeders Engage New Pricing and Calf Import Plan
The Polk County Dairy Breeders Directors approved December 3 as the start of new fees for breedings at seven dollars for three services within 180 days with an extra breeding at two dollars. Membership grows to 320 farms and fifty unused services in 1948. About 50 dairy heifers will be imported from DHIA tested herds, allocated by registration with 4-H first and net cost around fifty to sixty dollars. The annual 4-H Achievement Day featured performances and films, with thanks to Roberts Dairy and the Stromsburg Commercial Club. Osceola beat David City 29 to 28 in a tight boys basketball game, with box score details and next game vs Silver Creek on December 14.

Brother of Osceola Lady Found Dead at Angora
Funeral services were held for Harry C. Becker 64 at Osceola area Angora Nebraska after his body was found at home by Roy Morgan of Bayard. County Attorney said death due to natural causes and Becker had been deceased at least two weeks. Survivors include sister Mrs Andrew Nelson of Osceola.

Thieves broke into the Osceola Produce Transfer building by cutting a door glass, hauled out a large cash register, then moved it a mile northeast and opened it to rifle the contents. A Tuesday Farmers Day at Osceola High School auditorium drew 250 to 300 people despite bad weather. The Polk County Crop Improvement Association Extension Office and Osceola Chamber of Commerce organized the event with speakers from Lincoln College of Agriculture including Dr Weldon and Dr Russell. County Agent Calder Throckmorton and Paul Monson chaired, lunch was provided by the Chamber, and plans were made for a larger Farmers Day next year.

Zentz Reburied at Ord for War Fatality
Cpl. Ervin E. Zentz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Emory Zentz of Osceola, was reburied at the Old Methodist Church in Ord. He died of wounds received April 13 1945 in Bamberg Germany and passed away April 19 in a France hospital while serving as a tank gunner with the 7th Army Third Infantry Division. He left a wife Verna and three children Judy Linda and Larry Zentz.
