Stromsburg residents injured in icy highway mishap

Four Stromsburg people were injured early Monday when their car skidded on icy pavement at the Big Turn west of Osceola. Most seriously hurt were Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Sherwood. he broke a leg and was taken to St Francis hospital in Osceola, she suffered bruises and a possible broken jaw. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Johnson had bruises and cuts but were not seriously injured.

Trausch Kresha wedding in Nebraska bride and groom wed in Roseland

Miss Margaret Trausch of Roseland Nebraska married George Kresha of Osceola at Sacred Heart Church in Roseland on November 29. The ceremony was by Father Alfonse Lisko with Irene Trausch and Wilfred Kresha as attendants. The couple will live in Bakersfield California after a to be announced wedding trip and return. Mrs. Kresha is from Roseland and worked in Omaha. Mr. Kresha, son of Adolph Kresha Jr., recently discharged after four years in the Pacific.

Tom L. Turner of the U S Fish and Wildlife Service outlined the January 1946 rat eradication drive at Polk County events. He warned against expecting fast cures and stressed need for masonry repairs before a successful campaign.

Servicemen return and move on from wartime duty

M Sgt Warren E Johnson son of Mr and Mrs Elmer E Johnson was honorably discharged after more than four years in the army. Sgt Johnson served with the Western Flying Training Command at Stockton Field California as a medic. Noel Thompson phoned from Oakland after returning from the Philippines and reports his Navy service. Leonard Thompson is en route to the States via Panama after overseas Navy service. Pvt Billy Zedicher came from Camp Hood Texas to visit and will report to Camp Funston Kansas for a year assignment. Pvt Gene Cole from McCook air base spent a three day pass with his mother. Richard Zedicher called from the west coast after returning from the Pacific and expects Marine Corps discharge this week. Elmer Stewart, hospitalized six months for rheumatic fever, can leave hospital occasionally for weekend passes. Cpl Jimmie Hastings discharged November 23 at Ft Leavenworth and is home in Kansas City. Pfc Jack Hastings remains in the Philippines and has been promoted to Corporal.

Ve Sgt Victor Cerny arrived in Osceola after discharge dating from Fr. Leavenworth. He served overseas nearly two years with a photo squadron. Ivan Tier came home from the European Theatre and is in the army of occupation. he has re enlisted and will return to Europe after furlough.

Pvt Chantry visits Osceola then heads to Ft Leavenworth

Pvt James Chantry spent Wednesday to Sunday in Osceola with his parents, then on Sunday Evening the Chantrys and the Wiselys drove to Omaha where Pvt Chantry departed for Fort Leavenworth Kansas. Set Fred Calkins reports to his parents that he is sailing November 22 on the U S Grundy bound for England.
