The Polk County Medical Society warns that trichinosis is no longer confined to winter. About two percent of hogs harbor the parasite. Cases arise from home slaughtered pork and undercooked meat, including hot dogs and pork hamburgers, with symptoms like severe muscle pain and high fever.
Polk County Nebraska Board met August 20 1945 in regular session auditing and approving claims. Salaries for county officers clerical and deputies set with increases for Elsie Cole to 125.00 monthly and a surplus levy for Polk County Agricultural Society to fund future improvements. Several contracts purchases and reimbursements were authorized including utility and road services and bond/surety considerations. Approval by all commissioners with adjournment to September 4 1945.
