Douglas Dunn, son of Mr and Mrs Lewis Dunn, is an Agricultural Development Consultant for the International Agricultural Agency in Washington DC. He graduated from the University of Nebraska with a major in Animal Husbandry and earned a Master’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca New York after two years in the Peace Corps in Colombia South America.
A girl named Darlene Sue Wagner born Aug. 17 to Clarance L. Wagner and wife in Stromsburg weighing 9 pounds 2 ounces. A boy Kevin Terry Oman born Aug. 18 to Terry Oman and wife in Osceola weighing 8 pounds 12 ounces. A girl born Aug. 18 to Kenneth Krieg and wife in Osceola weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces.
Local youths are invited to participate in the Polk County Recreational Association Boys Jr Golf Tournament set for Saturday August 23. Start time a.m. players must supply clubs and the entry fee is 50 cents.
Osceola East Side captured first place by winning two games. Walt Larson pitched both games, defeating Shelby A & B 11 7 and the Southside 27 12. South Side took second, Stromsburg third, with Shelby A & B Augustin Ranch and Clarks also competing. A Pep Club meeting for all girls is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday August 26 at the Osceola Park tennis court to learn new cheers.
Proceeds from the August 6 land sale of the Hazel Brown Burns estate totaled 26600 dollars. About 76 acres of dry land northeast of Osceola sold to Earl Watts and Harold Jarmin, both residents of Osceola.

A string of moves and relocations is reported across Osceola and nearby towns. Families including Hahn Fischer Richards Huggler Headlee Hayes Frund and Marak are noted to have moved to new homes, farms, or cities such as Lincoln Seward Milford Norridge Illinois and Ft Collins Colorado.
Mr and Mrs James Turner attended the annual national convention of the Good Samaritan Society in Northfield Minnesota last weekend. Their grandchildren Gregg and Brenda Fisher of Eldora Iowa accompanied the Turners to Northfield and were met there by their parents.
Garden Club members and two visitors Miss Irene Anderson and Mrs Dwight Bush toured each other’s gardens Tuesday evening August 12. They viewed plantings then gathered at Nina Bonds home for a near picnic supper and bingo. Next meeting is September 9 with Elvena Monson. Lulu Ward will give a lesson on storing bulbs.
Over 200 riders from across the state competed in the Harvard Saddle Club Horse Show on Sunday August 10. Gold enrod Saddle Club riders placed in events with Jim Marak Huck Rowan Jon Tenniges and Steve Tenniges earning top spots in Rescue Innertube and Four-a-Breast events.

A midget football meeting is planned for 8 o'clock Wednesday evening August 27 at Asceola City Hall. Eligible boys are 10 by July 1 1969 through the 8th grade, weighing 70 to 120 pounds. Each boy must be accompanied by a parent. Two divisions will be formed. Entry blanks are available at Co op Oil Record Office and Nahrstedt's and must be brought to the meeting.
Public invited to hear Randy Bond recount his 18 day trip to the United Nations headquarters in New York sponsored by the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs of America. The talk, at 8 30 Wednesday evening August 27, will be in the lodge basement beneath Bush's Drug Store with refreshments served and no admission charge.
Mr and Mrs Edd Coover will be honored on their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at Polk Methodist church on Sunday August 24 from 2 to 4 p m. Friends and relatives are invited without further notice. No gifts please.
Osceola routed Humphrey 16 to 1 on Friday with Marion Bernt and Waldo Peterson holding Humphrey to three hits. Grossnicklaus caught both pitchers. For Humphrey, Weinhoff Jaixen and Wessell worked. Osceola also beat Cedar Rapids by forfeit Sunday and will play Genoa on August 24 to close the loop.
Kevin and Terry McCarron of Cheyenne Wyoming stayed with their grandparents Mr and Mrs Ted Johnson last week. Deverne Johnson took the children home on Saturday.
