Bailey Store Sold to Valentine Man
C. W. Warwick of Valentine has purchased the Bailey Store stock, becoming the new owner. Ralph Mack Prang, longtime manager since opening, will stay on under the new owner. Warwick is a former Silver Creek schools superintendent and has held a similar post in Valentine. He plans to move here with his family this weekend into the current Mackprang residence.

Platte County Sheriff Announces Tax Delinquency Efforts
Sheriff Herb Person of Platte County reports $3727 in delinquent personal taxes paid to date in a campaign begun a month ago. He notes 3038 notices sent and 1179 ready for mailing. Taxpayers have ten days to arrange payment before distress warrants. Seven special deputies were hired to serve warrants and begin work Monday.

Man Killed in Two Truck Crash Near Shelby
C. E. Chapman of Arkansas City Kansas was killed and Ed Taddiken of Shelby injured when Chapman's transport rear collided with Taddiken's gravel truck on Highway 81 north of Shelby Thursday afternoon. Chapman was pinned for nearly an hour and died Sunday at St. Mary's hospital in Columbus. Milton Reed, 19 Meadow Grove, suffered a fractured ankle. Taddiken received a head cut and bruised arm but was discharged after treatment.

STROMSBURG Reuel Sward and Kermit Brant ing left on Saturday evening for a week's fishing trip in Minnesota. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mackerang of Osceola spent Sunday at the R. E. Nelson home. Misses Lois Nelson and Angela Rejche the latter of Wilbur returned Sunday morning from Colorado where they spent two weeks vacation at Grand Lake Denver and Colorado Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Watters and family who visited at the Henry Moberg home for ten days returned to Lincoln Friday and will depart this week for their home in Miami Florida. F. R. Nixon of Legion Texas formerly of this city arrived last Thursday to spend a week or more here looking after business matters. Rev. and Mrs. Clarence Lind and family of North Bend came Friday and visited at the Henry Lind home and with other relatives for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Clement Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Nelson and son Gary left Saturday for Minnesota to spend a week's vacation. Mrs. Einer Swanson and family and Mrs. C. J. Arnold drove to North Bend on Sunday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burton. Lorraine Swanson returned home with them after spending a week there.

Corn Parity Payments Expand in Polk County
The 1939 corn parity program drives about 400 Polk County applications last week with more in process. Payments total six cents per bushel on normal yield for corn within the allotment, plus nine cents per bushel under the conservation payment to be issued later. The aim is to align farm price received for corn with prices paid for non agricultural goods.

Wesley Chapel Visitors and Reunion At City Park

Polk County's sixtieth annual county fair opened Monday with entry day crowds and the largest exhibits in a decade. Livestock, agriculture, and fine arts drew strong interest as 4-H clubs showcased results. drinking fountains were installed for visitor convenience as the fair runs through Friday night.

At the county fair on Friday afternoon August 25 the 4-H Club conducts a sale of boars, rams and gifts in front of the grandstand. Myrberg Wallace Strong assist in the sale with Tooker Ingalls Merrick helping in the ring. Gordon Fredrickson chairs the 4-H committee and assists in cashiering. The sale promises well bred stock and many pedigreed animals, inviting farmers to attend and buy without long trips.

Elizabeth Shoup of Chicago is hospitalized this week with scalp wounds and shock after a Sunday accident six miles west where a car overturned in loose gravel.
