Polk County's first postwar fair opens in Osceola next Monday with hall games musical revues and fireworks. Officials emphasize entertainment and high quality exhibits though the poultry exhibit is cancelled due to disease. The fair runs Monday through Wednesday with free gate Monday night.
Local Legion members and the Auxiliary are finishing preparations for the new club rooms on the north side. The formal opening is later, but the facility is to host visiting legion members during next week’s county fair.
The Polk County Board of Commissioners announced a contract with Walter and Mrs. Koehler of Hayward California to operate the County Farm for the coming year. Bruce and Mrs. Pickett plan retirement and have purchased the Oscar Boden 240 acre farm north of Osceola. The Koehlers are former Polk residents who previously operated the County Farm and will return after year start to take possession in March.
Osceola friends note the marriage of Miss Trwyla Ann Thompson and Or lando Rogar Lindesmith Jr in Salina Kansas on August 1 1946. The bride is daughter of Captain and Mrs W E Thompson of Salina formerly of Osceola where Mr Thompson was Osceola Schools superintendent for years.

Mr and Mrs Tony Savage and Maxine of Arlington Virginia and Mrs V J Rakowski and sons of Omaha were Tuesday evening visitors with Mr and Mrs Edward Lisko and John Micek. Mr and Mrs Ralph Hasselbalch motored to Lincoln Tuesday where they spent the day. Mr and Mrs John Gonka and Ted of near Duncan and Mr and Mrs Edward Lisko accompanied Phil Micek to Burwell Thursday, where they attended the Rodeo. Mr and Mrs Jeff Miller left on a vacation trip to Montana where they will visit Mr Miller's brother. Mr and Mrs Chauncey Lusche and family of near Columbus were Sunday dinner guests in the home of Mr and Mrs Ralph Hasselbalch and Betty. Mr and Mrs Adolph Bernt attended a family picnic at Columbus Sunday. Mr and Mrs Bud Zollars and family of Oakland Calif were Thursday callers in the John Micek and Ralph Hasselbalch homes. Mr and Mrs Louis Scow and family enjoyed several days in Topeka Kansas visiting Mrs Scow's sister. John Korger of New York visited with relatives in this vicinity last week.

Marvin Mace spent several days last week at Burwell for the rodeo. Gerald Reimers and daughter from Omaha visited the Russell Mace home. Leo Larson and wife stay at the Heitzman home. Jerome Hemmer and son attended a bridal shower near Monroe. William Gregg and daughter from Central City visited George Reed. Guildford Bryan family and C R Carlson family attended the Fair at Fullerton.

New additions include Bernard Baruch Eddie Rickenbacker Starling of the White House and The Snake Pit along with juvenile works like Big Red Silver Inkwell Two is a Team and Story of the Bible.
County Extension warns 4 H youths not to enter poultry as all poultry shows are suspended at the County Fair due to Newcastle disease spreading in twenty states. The disease is rising nationwide.
Eleven clubs have reserved booths in the 4 H building with more clubs to speak up. Indications point to the girls' exhibit surpassing last year's in size and scope.
Wayland Workers 4-H club gathered at Mildred Rosenberry's home to display finished garments and record measurements for health records. The next meeting is scheduled for August 22 at Vivian Rosenberry's home.
The Flyinge Fingers Club met at D. E. Johnson’s home to judge tea towels and comfort protectors. Joan Johnson gave a demonstration. The club will meet on August 21.
Members of the Wise Winners 4-H Club met August 14 at the F Flamme home. Button holes were judged with a prize awarded for the best. Darlene Flamme began a kitchen apron project. The club will meet August 21 with Donna Jean Snyder.
Jolly Homemakers gathered with Dorothy Barker to work on dresses. Karen Imm completed a laundry bag. The group will meet August 28 at the Harry McCauley home.
At the Blue Ribbon club meeting the girls outlined plans for their exhibit at the County Fair. Katherine Conkling will entertain the club at its next gathering.
Applicants must file for dairy subsidy payments on whole milk and butter fat sold during April May and June. Submissions must be presented at the AAA office on or before August 31 1946.
Applications for anl risk wheat insurance may be written at the AAA office or with the wheat insurance agent in your community. Signed applications must be in the AAA office by August 31, 1946. The Commodity Credit Corporation announces loan availability for wheat and oats. Loan price set at $1.54 per bushel for No. 1 wheat and 48 cents per bushel for oats grading No. 3 or better.
The 14th Peterson family reunion gathered 74 of 117 members at Buckley Park on Sunday August 18 1946. Two members served in the armed forces. families welcomed new marriages and three births. Officers were elected for 1947 and a baton twirling display entertained attendees.
Mrs Leona Dawes and family returned from a Black Hills and Wyoming trip and visited friends in Sheridan O Neill. Merl Dawes hospitalized with poison ivy. Osceola and Shelby residents joined visits with the Dawes family and Casselberrys planned a trip to Washington and California.

The award honors distinguished service to moral and religious life in the city. Morgan is sister of Mrs. Charles Hoffer of Wayland and wife of the Journal of the National Education Association editor.
