Burglars blew open the Farmers Grain Co. safe and stole non negotiable bonds worth thousands plus fifty dollars in cash. A typewriter radio and papers of little value were also taken. At the S P Johnson Grain Co elevator a radio was seized while the safe remained unlocked.
Mr and Mrs Jack Brandt attended a family reunion at Benson park Omaha last week. Mr and Mrs Elmer Seger and daughter from Lincoln Acres California arrived Monday for a visit with Polk County friends. Seger and his parents once lived on the farm now owned by Oswald Cerny. They visited Bert Seger Scottsbluff and Lester Seger Hastings en route. Mrs Minnie Altmansofer and Amnie Cerny Columbus were visitors in the Dick Merrick home Friday evening. Mr and Mrs W F Brandt Jr returned home Sunday from a few days visit with their daughter's family in Columbus.
Marvin Garlock a York student preacher fills the pulpit. Jolly Workers Club meets August 21 at Mrs Sundberg's home. Visitors include Walter Aregood Rising City and Dr K F Rystrom Bayard. Relatives visit, hospital trip, and park picnic noted with local families in Benedict, Ulysses, Fremont, Polk, Scotts Bluff, Wayland, and Buckley Park.
Local residents hosted relatives from Ohio and Iowa with visits to Osceola and Cedar Rapids. The Royal Neighbor picnic is set for Thursday at the park. Sports note: Osceola ball club hosts a league game vs York Sunday and plays David City next Thursday. Tax foreclosure sale: Andrew N. Johnson estate residence bought by Walter Calhoun for 2000.
Wanda Rose Taddiken married Raymond Weisback in a candlelit ceremony at the Methodist Church on Friday August 9. Rev H B Lansing officiated with two seven branch candelabras and a floral altar. The couple will honeymoon in Indiana. bride is a Benson High and Woodbury College alumna, groom a Terra Haute native and Woodbury College attendee.
Sunday evening guests included Mr and Mrs Adolph Forss and Donnie Sundberg at the Willard Adelson home. News notes report daughter of Mrs Hennie Seymour undergoing surgery in Rockford and various travels and hospitalizations among area residents.
Elsbeth Leventhal thanks friends for cards letters and flowers sent during illness in hospital. Your kindness helped time pass more quickly and much appreciated.

Miss Maud Johnson arrived Sunday evening from California after an extended visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Clement L. Anderson hosted at dinner with Rev. C. J. Almquist and Mrs. C. A. Anderson among others. Kelso and Pawnee City families were weekend guests at Earl Steever’s home. Mrs. Hannah Lindstrom and sons left for Denver after visiting Emma C. Peterson. Wayne Seabarth and Robert Casswell of Wilcox joined Donald Nordlund to Omaha to visit Bernard Shafers.
Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Poe and children express sincere appreciation to all who showed kindness during the recent bereavement of their son and brother, Francis Poe.
The Central Electric and Gas Co. announces Lloyd R. Green as superintendent for the Osceola and Shelby territory. Green previously worked at David City and served two years in the SeaBees in the South Pacific. He and Mrs. Green plan to move to Osceola soon.
Some persons with a perverted sense of humor damaged farm equipment on the Charles Hastert farm east of Shelby Sunday night. Two tractors brought to an alfalfa field were driven around and then crashed head on, causing considerable damage to both machines.
Osceola defeated Aurora 5 to 0 with 32 hits in a baseball style box. Tyer, D Enderle and Gross led in errors while John son Schmoker and Struck out by Beasley 14 and Kailey 4.
Francis Poe born June 7 1915 in Butler County Nebraska died August 4 1946 at Doctors Hospital Omaha from severe burns after an auto and truck crash He was 31 years 1 month and 27 days He married Marjorie Boehm September 7 1940 in Columbus Nebraska Left are widow parents five brothers and three sisters Poe lived in Osceola the last six years working on the Honnel farm and for Osceola Lumber Company and Osceola Produce Transfer He grew up in Surprise Nebraska and Osceola area.
Miss La Vona Anderson and Waldo Rodene wed August 11 at 8 pm in Anderson’s Swede Home Lutheran Church. Rev Alfried Franzen officiated as guests watched ferns and white gladioli decorate the altar. The bride wore neon white lace and a lace edged veil with a crown and gold sequins. A shower bouquet from the groom rested on a white Bible. The couple will reside in Lincoln where the groom will continue work at the Agriculture College.
The past week saw hospitalizations in several towns. Medical cases include Miss Ruth Peterson and Mrs E Woodard of Stromsburg, J Rinke and Mrs J Rinke and Roseann Rinke, Jaanita Rinke of Shelby, L Schott of Osceola, A Stopak of Silver Creek, and J Schott of Osceola. Surgical cases list A Shemek of Osceola. Discharged include Mrs E Woodard, A Shemek, and L Schott.
District 18 notes describe a Tuesday party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Seberger for visiting Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blessen and daughter from Bakersfield California. Additional visits include Los Angeles residents Mrs Lucy Zipper and family and Adolph Bernt with relatives near Bellwood.
