Gate repositioning eases entry and exits with a larger gate north of the secretary's office. Grandstand repairs and cleaning continue as Hastings begins his campaign and season tickets drop to 1 dollar with a free night gate. A night show opens the first day featuring the Goldsmith Revue for four nights.

Shelby Residents Head Out For Visits And Moves
Mr and Mrs A L Scholz and Mr and Mrs Fred Brigham left by auto for the Black Hills for a week or ten days. Mr and Mrs Alonzo Merrick and Mrs I J Merrick of Osceola went to Peabody Kansas to visit relatives then to Kansas City to visit Dr and Mrs Alton Merrick. Thelen and son moved to a newly purchased home in north Shelby. Fritz Mousche of Kansas City Kansas visited at the Miller home with HK Miller and family. The Miller family hosted Marjorie and Dorothy Miller and A L Olson of Omaha for a weekend. The Miller family and Arjay plan to send Mrs Miller and Arjay to Los Angeles for the winter. Arjay will attend the university. Phil Ball and daughters Gertrude and Lois drove to Albin Wyoming to visit relatives. Gertrude will teach near Albin. Wm Lux of North Bend visited Shelby relatives. Earl Scott visited from Wayne Nebraska for ten days with his parents, then he and son went to Kimball to look after land interests. Dr A Blum and Mrs Blum drove to Omaha. Dr Blum returned, Mrs Blum stayed longer with their children. A nine pound baby boy was born Thursday at the Shelby hospital to Mr and Mrs Jack Ingalls. Mrs Kate Blake and Miss Louise Scholz visited Blair Nebraska then returned home. Mrs A E Kuhnel underwent an operation at the Shelby hospital with Dr A A Blum and Dr McGuire performing it.

Old Settlers Picnic Highlighted by Charity Ice Cream Bake Sale
Wesley Chapel Church served ice cream and bake on the courthouse lawn during the old Settlers picnic raising 20 dollars and seventy cents. The event drew families from Osceola Shelby Dix Fuller ton and surrounding areas for a day of festivities and community gathering.
Old Settlers Picnic Draws Large Osceola Crowd
A throng estimated at three to four thousand gathered in Osceola for the Old Settlers and Homecoming Picnic and the Odd Fellows event. The day featured a parade of vintage vehicles, a York Odd Fellows Band concert, speeches by Congressman Shallenberger and C. C. Johnson, and a countywide registration of attendees with notes on earliest settlers and historic county landmarks.

Miss Olive Bennett and Clarence Gilbert of Stromsburg were married Saturday afternoon in Columbus. Attended by Mrs. Walter Umshler, the bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Bennett and a 1922 Osceola high school graduate. The groom is the son of Mrs. Anna Gilbert of Stromsburg.

Nebraska State Fair Introduces 1600 Dollar Auto Race Purse
A 1600 dollar purse will be awarded to winners in the Competitive Auto Races at the Nebraska State Fair marking a new individual-driver format. Previously a syndicate supplied cars and drivers with rewards for all participants. This year drivers must win to claim prize money, with races held on Tuesday and Friday.

Council Grants Beer Licenses in Osceola
Osceola city council at a special session granted beer licenses to Lilly-Ann Cafe Malek's Bakery and Ben Eldridge with Ben Eldridge holding an off sale permit. After verifying petition signatures and poll books 108 signers had not voted last April, leaving 37 valid names. With the new state law effective at midnight beer sales began that day.

A two day cooking school will be held in the office of the Iowa Nebraska Light and Power Company on August 10 and 11.
