Osceola expected to draw a large crowd for the Old Settlers Picnic and Odd Fellows Homecoming. relics from across the county on display include early pioneer photographs and a large eight by eight foot Polk County map by J Karl Bryant. parade at 11 am features music by the Odd Fellows boys band, Congressman Shallenberger address, sports, swimming, pageant and dance.

Mr and Mrs Glen Austin and their son moved to York this week leasing the Central Cafe. The Austins had lived in Shelby for years and he worked at the J F Bernt restaurant in south Shelby. The long list of visitors and relatives continues the community notes in Shelby.
Cheese Factory at Shell Creek Expands Milk Supply
Halfway to Columbus a brick cheese factory on Shell Creek boosts its milk intake from farmers within fifty miles. George Saalfield runs the operation with two helpers and a new Wisconsin cheese maker expected soon. The tile brick building processes about 10,000 pounds of milk daily, making full cream cheese in three sizes. Saalfield’s Guernsey herd is 40 head and his cheese earned 96 points at the Wisconsin state fair.

County Agent Kelly and five farmers were named to the Polk county temporary committee for the Triple A wheat acreage reduction plan. Osceola hosts the district conference where W. A. Carnine is chairman and members A. P. Anderson A F Nuquist J Cockson and Glen Chase were named. Extension staff outlined the voluntary nature of the plan and its separation from regular marketing. Details on payments per bushel domestic wheat use and exact acreage reductions were not provided at Osceola July 19 but will be announced soon. Active county organization will proceed quickly.
