Last Rites Saturday for Elmer F Horst

Elmer F Horst born May 6 1900 in Polk county Nebraska died July 25 1956 at 56 funeral Saturday at two oclock at the Osceola Methodist Church with many out of town relatives listed attended including Christine Horst Pasadena Calif and P W Horst Denver Colorado. He married Clara M Sarow on October 27 1926 and was a longtime Polk county resident. He is survived by his wife and brothers and a sister plus many nieces and nephews and friends.

Osceola pummeled Crockall 21-2 as Dick Alt fired a two hit effort with 12 strikeouts. Osceola opened with a run in each of the first two innings and added eight in the fifth and eighth. They face Duncan next on the local diamond and travel to St Mary's the following Sunday for revenge.

Polk County Farmers Back Wheat Quotas in 1957

Nebraska wheat growers approved marketing quotas for the 1957 crop with Polk County voting 276 in favor and 53 against. A two thirds statewide majority produced a 78.2 percent approval. Eligible voters must have over 15 acres of wheat. quotas apply to 15 acres or more, with support price set for 75 to 90 percent of parity for compliant farms.

Stores To Close Afternoons For The Polk County Fair

The Osceola Chamber of Commerce closing committee announces stores will close at 1 PM Wednesday and Thursday next week to allow businessmen and employees to attend the Polk County Fair.
