One Week Separates Deaths of Hastings Brothers
R. N. Hastings 87 died Tuesday morning April 24 at Rest Manor Osceola. Survived by wife and seven children. Funeral Friday at 2 p m at Methodist Church with burial at Beulah cemetery. Elder brother George W Hastings 93 died Cedar Rapids service April 20. Born April 13 1863 in Ohio, son of R T Hastings and Susanne. Homer Hastings of Osceola and Loyd Doughty of Cedar Rapids survive with a brother Wilbur Monett Missouri six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The Dornan farm quarter section near Shelby was sold at referee sale in Osceola. Local farmer John Sutko bid the price of 213 dollars per acre. The tract lies five miles north and one mile east of Shelby.

The Red Cross Blood Mobile at Shelby parish hall failed to meet the 120 pint quota for the Osceola Shelby area. Pheasants Released Across Polk County by Game Commission
The Nebraska Game Commission released one thousand pheasants in Polk County last Thursday. Shelby Polk Osceola Stromsburg received 240 260 and 260 birds respectively. The birds were near full grown with a rooster to nine hens ratio and should fare well for the fall hunt. A Wildlife Club is forming and a meeting is set for Monday April 30 at Swan Sons Hall Stromsburg at 8 p m with a State Game Commission representative present.

Osceola Tops Genoa For Second Goldenrod Track Title
Osceola won the Goldenrod Conference track meet for the second straight year, edging Genoa. Winners include Jan Grossnicklaus in high and low hurdles, Darryl Swanson in the 880, Dick Triba in discus, and a winning 880 yard relay quartet of Grossnicklaus Dinges Mickey and Bernt. At Columbus, Osceola placed second with new class records in 120-yard high hurdles and 180-yard low hurdles, and Doane Invitational scoring mirrored similar strong showings. The grade school meet saw Osceola finishing fourth as Stromsburg led the standings.

Walden Jones Receives State Farmer Degree at Lincoln
Walden Jones was awarded the State Farmer degree at Lincoln during the first session of the FFA state convention. Nebraska granted 107 similar degrees this year to members who completed four years of outstanding vocational agriculture and FFA work. Walden, son of Mr and Mrs Harold Jones, is the Osceola Chapter’s fourth recipient, with projects in dairy hogs beef and wheat.
