Polk county will gain 1000 pheasants as the Nebraska Game Commission releases them to stock the area. A group of sportsmen organized a Wildlife Club with support from Lloyd P. Vance of the Game Commission. A committee meeting in Stromsburg outlined forming a permanent sportsman organization with a Game Commission member soon to assist. Osceola Record publisher Perry N. Sapp was hospitalized in Clarkson Hospital Omaha after a heart attack suffered last Friday during the Nebraska Press Association convention. The paper won Ak-Sar-Ben awards for fire department and school campaigns and community service with Art Morton accepting on Sapp’s behalf. The $200 prize will fund a community project.

Overheated Furnace Sparks House Fire in Gospel Ridge
Firefighters answered a Gospel Ridge call Monday afternoon to a blaze in Mrs. Ben Treadway’s home caused by an overheated furnace. The department limited structural damage but smoke and water damage were extensive. Mrs. Treadway, living at a Rest Home in Shelby, planned to return to Osceola next week as her family had prepared the furnace.
