Grace M B Church hosts Lincoln District Conference May 1 3 while Valley M E Church observes its 50th anniversary May 4 6. The Valley event recalls Polk County pioneer life with early residents and church builders highlighted, leading to the 1885 dedication of the present Valley church.
Rev J A Klein leads an extensive program for district gatherings with help from committees. Prominent church figures from across the country will address meetings and local participants will feature literary and musical numbers. Dr Chas Harms of Lincoln will give the anniversary address. other out of town leaders include Rev G C Meyer Rev Ervin Unverzagt and Dr Otto E Kriege as part of the District Conference.
District Conference program lists sermons devotions and musical events across May 1 to May 6 at In Town and The Valley churches. Speakers include Rev. J A Klein Rev. Koehler Rev. Hessel Rev. Miller and Rev. Herrmann with choirs, solos, and a 50th anniversary program.
Relatives report the death of W L Ryan at Sioux City. His remains will be returned to Gresham for burial. He is survived by three sons here M J Edward and Albert Ryan a son Stalnaker Ryan of Gresham a son George Ryan of California two daughters Mrs Tillie Dyment of Sioux City and Mrs Sarah Page of Missouri. He was 94. The funeral is set for tomorrow. An obituary will be published next week.
Grand Island April 2 Federal Prohibition Agent Battin and U S Deputy Marshal Mandeville led a group of twelve from Columbus and nearby towns in custody on liquor law violations. Arraigned before Commissioner Cleary they await trial. Among those named are Zurbin Genoa Pauley Genoa Wissell Humphrey Kussek Columbus Lich Tarnor Kawa Duncan Woodward Shank Maurer and Allison Columbus and Silver Creek residents plus Shank held for a prior offense.
On April 24 the Minneota Camp Fire Girls served a six o clock dinner at guardian Mrs W O Hansen home. A ceremonial meeting followed with honor beads awarded to three girls earning wood gatherer and eight earning Firemaker. A reporter was elected and Camp Sheldon discussed. Doris Burdick to lead next meeting on May 1.

Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Curren and family thank friends for sympathy and support after the death of their son. They also thank the physician for his service and neighbors for help and floral tributes during the illness and death of their wife and mother, W. J. Query and family.

The Wright Bros Co of Aurora purchases the late G. A. Dunning general merchandise stock in Shelby and plans a new management opening next Saturday. Floyd Wright oversees Aurora, Earl Wright oversees Stromsburg, with Harle W. Wright to manage Shelby, replacing the Dunning family oversight.
Society notes detail the Woman's Literary Club hosting a 6:30 dinner at the Presbyterian church on Tuesday. Merry Workers gathered with Messrs Boyd Mickey Crow as hostesses. Kensingtons continue with Mrs Campbell entertaining the Gaballets next week. 32 guests attended a Kensington afternoon at Mrs Cornish's home. The Baptist Missionary Society meets May 2 at 2 30 at Mrs Lester Shore's home.
Miss Lara Timm, daughter of Mr and Mrs David Timm, wed Wednesday at the couple’s home near Alliance. Groom, a new Shel by postmaster and WWI veteran, plans to farm Polk County land. Relatives from Osceola and David City attended. The couple will reside in Shel by.
Albert Leo Curren son of Mr and Mrs G E Curren died at Shelby hospital April 23 1923 after a severe appendicitis and peritonitis. He was born February 7 1908 in Noble Oklahoma and moved to Nebraska with his parents in 1923. Survived by parents two sisters Adelia and Viola and brother Dolan. Funeral at home and M E church Shelby at 2 30 p m conducted by Rev Caldwell.

Mrs. May Wroe of Columbus visited several homes then returned home Saturday. G. S. McKenty, a university student friend of Lloyd Timm, came to Lincoln and visited the Mark Timm home. Mrs. Ed Farrar and Hazel of Farwell visited J. W. Fillman in Lincoln. Miss Ruth Hermann teaching near Polk returned to school after visiting her parents A. J. and Mrs. Herrmann. Martha McConaughy arrived from Denver for a few days with her brothers and planned to move to Aurora. Rufus Walker assisted Dan Magnuson and George F. Anderson with farm building moves on the Blue. Mrs. Clara Mickey and family left for Missouri but plan to settle in Lackies Polk county after an unhappy prospect. Union Pacific reports no personal injuries in March in Nebraska Division, a sign of improved safety.
The Record announces Supt. Andrews will stay in Osceola despite offers from other districts. He faced strong solicitation to accept a position elsewhere with a substantial salary increase.
The Osceola sce master gains wide fame as he begins his fourth year at Ft. Lupton Colorado. The community and the school praise his services and express satisfaction with his continued presence.
Osceola Board of Education finalized the teaching roster for the next year led by Supt. C. E. Andrews. Chas H L Bar oversees History and Athletics. Board of Education limits practices to after 6 PM at the school building with notice via local papers. Parents may verify pupil attendance and practice time by reading the paper or calling the superintendent or Mr Crow.
