Arbor Day and Daylight Saving Time Change Noted

Arbor Day 1976 promotes tree planting and care with the slogan There’s always a tomorrow with trees. Daylight saving time begins Sunday the 25th, adding an hour of evening light. Leisure Living And Sports Show In Columbus May 1 2

A record number of exhibits will highlight the 1976 Columbus Leisure Living Home and Sports Show at Platte County Agriculture Park. The event runs May 1 2 with 13 hours of exhibit and program time and free admission. Seminars cover outdoor living conservation lawn care and energy topics with displays on boats campers and home decorating.

Wagon Train Near Osceola Heads into Polk County

Rigs are polished and horses ready to greet the National Wagon Train as it enters the Polk County segment this Friday. The train will arrive around 4:00 p.m. via Highway 92 and parade by key sites before a 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. chuck wagon dinner at the fairgrounds priced at 1.50 per plate. A 7:30 p.m. show follows with wagon train members and regional talents. on Saturday morning April 24 the train departs for Columbus.

Wheat allotment for 1977 increased by 600000 acres

Eugene Sterup says the 1977 national wheat allotment will rise to 62.2 million acres from 61.6 million for 1976. The allotment guides payments under price and disaster programs, not planting limits, and will be apportioned by state and producer based on 1976 figures.

Minnegasco buys Cengas assets in Nebraska and South Dakota

Minnegasco announced completion of its $31 million cash purchase of CTU natural gas properties in Nebraska and South Dakota. Cengas, serving 130,000 customers across 57 communities, becomes a Minnegasco division with Glenn E. Bonacker as COO. Rates and service will remain unchanged.

Nebraska Law Covers Livestock Waste Control

Nebraska enforces strict livestock waste controls under state law. The DEC administers NPDES in Nebraska since 1974, with authority to regulate discharges into state waters. Farmers must apply for NPDES permits by September 1 1976 if discharges or potential discharges exist, and all runoff from rain or snowmelt must be controlled by July 1 1977.

Pioneer Mental Health Center Budget and Staffing Approved

The Pioneer Mental Health Center board approved the proposed budget and ongoing work. Funding comes from state county matches and clinic fees with a three to one state match and county contribution. Girls Won County Track Invitational Lead by Osceola Team

OHS girls track team won the Polk County Invitational held in Stromsburg on April 15, collecting 51 points for first place. Osceola secured multiple event ribbons and wins led by Vicki Kucera, Jayne Nelson, Sheryl Schott, and Bernadine Nitsch with strong performances across sprints, distance, and relays.
