Thirteen Polk County 4 h members took part in the Timely Topics public speaking contest held Tuesday evening April 12 at the Osceola courthouse. Junior division winners include Krissy Johnson and Joe Carlson of Osceola with purple ribbons. blue went to Todd Rosenquist Stromsburg Mike Sigler and Kris Monson both of Osceola. Tammy Ostran sky Stromsburg Andy Monson Osceola and Michelle Augustin Shelby with red ribbons. Senior division winners were Lester Hullinger Stromsburg Darla Sterup Osceola Lori Rosenquist Stromsburg blue. Mark and Scott Rosenquist Stromsburg red. The Polk County Home Extension Club Council met April 11 at the district courtroom with fourteen members present.

Osceola City Council Grants Requests and Appointments
At the April 6 meeting the council heard a petition with 200 plus signatures to keep the city dump open for residents. It approved ambulance on call expense credit card, issued building permits to four individuals, and welcomed Ken Keller to the Fire Department. A crime commission grant to reimburse part time police salaries was adopted and land conveyed to Ray Conrad. Meetings adjourned with May 5 planned.

Sheriff Urges Use of Channel 11 for Polk County Crisis

The Knights of Columbus Council 5383 raised about $1500 for the mentally retarded in Polk County. KC canvass across the county took place over the weekend of March 26 27, according to Eugene Gabel, the council chairman.

The Children and Youth Tea of the American Legion Auxiliary William Wolfe Post 91 drew about 75 attendees on Friday April 15 in Osceola. A display featured 219 clothing items 23 hospital gifts 73 bedding items and 54 children’s books all made from donated materials.
