Rebekah Lodge District Fourteen Holds Annual Meeting
The thirty fourth annual Rebekah Lodges District fourteen gathering met in Rising City on April 15 with 100 members attending. Mildred White of Shelby presided. Eldora Edgar of York and Helen Peacock of Pawnee City spoke as guests. Six candidates received the Rebekah Degree. Margaret Pehrson and Marie Lewis of Osceola were elected president and secretary for next year. Osceola will host the 1962 meeting.

Clair D. Huggler of Osceola, son of Mr and Mrs Chris Huggler, completed nine weeks of recruit training at the Naval Training Center San Diego Calif. The March 24 graduation included a full dress parade and review before military officials and civilian dignitaries. The nine weeks transform a raw recruit into a Navy Bluejacket ready for duty with the fleet.

Mrs. Emma Hartman Dies at 85 in Lincoln Visit
Emma Hartman 85 of Osceola died Sunday morning at her daughter’s home in Lincoln after several heart attacks. She spent time with children since September. Survived by three sons and four daughters. Funeral held Wednesday at Kepner Funeral Home with Berlin Raymond of Lincoln officiating. Burial in Valley Cemetery northwest of Osceola.

Osceola Fire Department responded to a late Monday call at the Jack Harrison residence where a weed patch behind the house caught fire from an incinerator. The flames were extinguished quickly and no damage occurred.

Osceola attorney P B Campbell aged 67 died in a traffic crash near Grants New Mexico Friday night. His wife Mrs Campbell was hospitalized with injuries as the couple traveled from Phoenix Arizona after a two week trip. Surviving son Henry Crawford Campbell a music instructor in Bozeman Montana. Funeral 2:00 p m Wednesday at Methodist church with Rev Ray E Hawkins officiating. Interment Osceola cemetery.

Several York County ladies join Polk County Farm Bureau on a chartered bus tour to Winnebago and Macy Nebraska on May 4. The trip covers two Indian Missions the Indian Hospital and Blackbird Hill with a bus fare about 4.00 and dinner by Presbyterian church ladies. Pickup times include 5 a.m. at Polk Hotel and 5:20 5:30 and 5:45 at Stromsburg Osceola and Shelby. Reservations may be made at the Farm Bureau office Osceola or with tour director Mrs Lloyd Hahn Polk.

Mrs. A. S. Norris aged 74 mother of Mrs. Dave Rutter, received funeral services at the Salvation Army Citadels in Chicago on April 7 and in Detroit on April 8. A Salvation Army officer for fifty seven years she died after a heart ailment. Burial took place in Detroit.
