Beebe Hotel history recounts Beebe and Pratt eras in Osceola
George L. DeLand documents the Beebe Hotel built circa 1884 1888 with 16 upstairs rooms two bridal suites and a large central hall. It details stairways heating stove use porch layout and ground floor rooms including office dining room kitchen and baggage area. The Pratts took over around 1898 1900 rebuilt the building into a filling station and later housed tin work auto shops garages and a coal oil firm before passing to the Farmers Co op Oil Co of Osceola.

The renowned Glenn Miller Orchestra will kick off its 40th season at Riverside Park Central City on May 4. Stanley Slosburg Wins Osceola Post Office Contract
Postmaster General J Edward Day announced a lease and construction deal for a new Osceola Nebraska post office. The successful bidder is Stanley J Slosburg of Omaha. Ground breaking soon with completion planned by November 1 1961. Lease runs ten years with options up to twenty. Building will sit on Main Street east side between Hawkeye and Hoosier with 2160 square feet interior space, loading platform and space for parking and truck maneuvering. Modern lighting and equipment included and a low open patron service counter.

Fight cancer with a checkup and a check
Mrs. Martin Roberts of the Polk County Unit of the American Society praised the response to cancer films shown in Stromsburg and Osceola last week. About 200 attended in Stromsburg and nearly 250 in Osceola. The screenings informed women about cancer facts and control. A door to door canvass starts next week in Osceola with rural contacts by mail and telephone to raise funds.

Polk County Conservation School Day for 7th and 8th Grades
About 320 Polk County seventh and eighth graders attended the first Conservation School Day on Wednesday at Osceola High School. The program featured talks on recreation facilities conservation water and demonstrations plus an afternoon farm tour of Bruce Anderson’s land with stops on windbreaks diversion irrigation and gully control. Sixteen sponsors supported the event and essays from seventh and eighth graders will be announced at the May 12 Osceola High School graduation ceremony.
