Osceola to designate April 29 for a one day city government run by the Osceola Woman's Club. Ladies will control mayoral and council positions as well as police and city offices while male officials are relieved of duties. A special program for all ages will accompany the event with full details forthcoming in local papers.
Funeral services were held at First M E Church Osceola for Elizabeth A. Ryan who died April 13 in Buhl Idaho aged 46 years 11 months 13 days. She was born in Iowa April 1868 and lived in Osceola before moving to Idaho with family. Her brother Clyde Ryan sister Ada Ryan and niece Roma Shark survive.
The Chaminade Chorus from Luther College Wahoo Nebraska will give a sacred music concert at the Lutheran Church next Sunday at 3 30 P M postponed from a month ago due to a near blizzard. A free will offering will be collected. Performances include Glorious Forever Sleep Holy Babe Vesper Hymn Morning Mood and more by Rachmaninoff Grieg Gounod and others.
Osceola Woman's Club divisions held the last meetings of the year. The Literature Department led by Mrs. L. M. Shaw discussed Mental Hygiene. Home Economics with luncheons and banquets instructed by Mrs. A. A. Wurtz and Mrs. George Berck. Music Division dined at Mrs. Geo. Malek’s home and rehearsed for spring. Physical Education held a bluff picnic. A new-year board elected: President Mrs. Jed Gilbert, Vice President Marian Shelmadine, Secretary Margaret Huston, Treasurer Doris Hansen.
A Howard County resident repainted 1932 license plates to match 1933 colors, incorrectly placing the year above the state letters. Police spotted the forgery in Grand Island, leading to disposal of old plates and issuance of new ones, with potential fines if prosecuted.
The City Farmer lauds Senator Wagner as a leading proponent of agricultural relief in the United States Senate. Born abroad and rising from street newspaper seller to college student, Wagner seeks to tackle farming problems with common sense. He criticizes so called dirt farmers and farm organizations for stirring class consciousness.
A large crowd attended a Friday Farmers Union gathering at the Chapel with music and readings by school children and local groups. The county president spoke on union history and county issues. Local families attended events at Victor and Fairview, with PTA talks by Mr. Huston and Miss Baldridge and an upcoming officer election on May fifth.
Shelby residents hosted relatives and friends from Lincoln Columbus and Moorefield for Easter weekend activities. Visitors included Arnold Egger, Bonnie Watkins, Gwendolyn Cole, Ernest Dexter, Raleigh Michener, and families from Columbus and Lincoln. Local gatherings featured church events and a newborn toy arrival at the Esaw home.
Nebraska tests compare a 90 percent low grade gasoline and 10 percent water free ethyl alcohol blend with gasoline alone using a six cylinder engine on a tractor testing rig. Professor Brackett notes slight or no performance changes, with fuel savings ranging from about 0 to 7.8 percent depending on load and carburetor settings.

Alvin Weeden family and Earl Miller party visited Donald Miller home Sunday. Mrs Cecil Miller returned home from Omaha Hospital. Ada Miller back from hospital and well. Mildred Richmond returned from Fremont for Easter vacation. Farmers Union Local met at Miller school Friday. special program. Mrs John Albers and Hubert Alt visited Harold Coxson home at Columbus Thursday. Thomas Richards, Dist 63 eighth grader, passed first exams. District 63 pupils held an Easter egg hunt and games Friday.
Mrs. R J Hunsaker suffered hand injuries when a washing machine wringer entangled. Clyde Ericson and Dor is Ericson with Richard Christensen visited Lincoln where Christensen began studies at the state university. Mrs Morris Johnson and Mrs Andrew McCumber travel to Topeka Kansas with plans to live there. The Johnsons expect to return later. Mr and Mrs E Lunner hosted a family reunion dinner Easter Sunday with relatives from Lincoln York and others. Myra Cox resumed duties as house mother at Alpha Kappa Theta in Lincoln after a short stay with T A James and son. F R Burgeson and son Clarence visited relatives in Kearney. Misses Marie Olson Althea Anderson and Marjory Rystrom returned to Nebraska University after spring break. Rev Simon Carlson left Stromsburg to attend State Mission Conference in Ceresco. Mrs J L Olson hosted a ladies party for Edna Olson’s birthday. Funeral rites for Gust Dahlsted were held at his farm home north of Stromsburg and at the Swedish Mission Church. he was 72 and survived by wife two sons and two daughters. Funeral services for Albert Heddman of Oakland were held at the Swedish Lutheran Church. he was a former local resident.
The Women’s Foreign Missionary Society will meet Monday afternoon with Mrs. W. H. Clark. The date change is due to the W C T U Institute at Polk on Tuesday.
The Polk County W C T U Institute takes place all day Tuesday April 25 at the M Ef Church in Polk with Mrs Mary Lee Seibert of Omaha to assist and give an address. The program lists devotionals plans speeches and a noontide meal with an afternoon session including prayers and a high school sextette.
Community events include Luther League hosting at Swede Home Church parlor with hostesses Mrs. Joel Toline and Mrs. Charles Anderson. Ladies Club met to embroider quilt blocks. Missionary Society plans meeting with hostesses Mrs. Norris Anderson and Mrs. Arthur Swanson. Various residents visited nearby towns and schools during Easter vacation.
Polk County petitions show 140 votes for the beer bill and 712 against. The speaker criticizes HR 585 on legal grounds and backs Governor Bryan's resubmission bill. Bills passed include RR 60 railroad crews and RR 400 election laws, H 416 farm produce tax relief with caveats, RR 226 gas tax exemption killed, S F 310 power and irrigation with reservations, TR 44 sale of real property under execution, ORR 442 regulating cattle sales, H 425 school levy cuts failed, RR 96 library cut to 19000. Governor signed birdweed control HR 74, probate HR 176, tuberculin condemnation HR 201, oil inspection HR 388, bootleg gasoline HR 390, auto number plates HR 421, civil procedure SF 12, and SF 72 medical exam exceptions for insurance. Major tax reductions passed. action remains in Senate.
Methodist services last Sunday night featured The End of a Perfect Day as a likely song number. Approximately 40 attended both morning and evening, with 239 in Sunday services.
Miss Alta Grossnicklaus wed Don ald Wieseman at 3 PM on Easter Sunday April 16 1923 in Ong Nebraska Rev John M Herrmann conducted the Methodist service with Miss Amna May Myers and Clair Hawley as attendants The couple will reside on a farm two miles north and two miles west of Shelby Nebraska The bride is Osceola High School graduate 1930 and the groom is son of Geo Wieseman of Osceola.
The choir offered a splendid cantata in the morning and the play His Cross in the evening, with all participants performing well. The message thrilled the audience and thanks were given to helpers, urging continued attendance and regular preaching services. W H Wright minister.
