Osceola residents urged to designate Thursday to Saturday as Clean Up Days to improve city appearance and reduce fire risk. Wagons will collect rubbish on a chosen day, with owners moving debris to accessible spots for prompt removal. The notice emphasizes civic pride and visitor impressions.
Miss Emma Ritchie, daughter of Mr and Mrs Albert Ritchie, will marry Lawrence Shaw in a 5 o clock ceremony at the Little Church of the Flowers in Glendale California. The couple will honeymoon along the Pacific coast and reside at the Radcliffe apartments after returning. The wedding will be attended by immediate family only with Mrs Ritchie’s parents hosting in Glendale.
An examination for teachers will be held at Osceola on Saturday April 21 1928. The usual program will be followed. Lt. D. Huston.

Beulah Guy Seward and family drove to Omaha to buy a Nash. Sam Cadwell and family were in York. Mrs E E Finecy visited Geo Carter's near Silver Creek. Mrs L B Reitz stayed with daughter Mrs Geo Reed. Harve McCormick and son Virgil toured Grand Island for relatives and a musical contest. Betty Christian stayed with Joe Need while Need is in hospital. Hopkins family visited Mont Mustard then moved west. Mrs Date and children drove to York to see hospital patients. Joe Need hospitalized after illness. Wm Lobb and grandson Jackie visited Wm Dake in Columbus. Vance and Virgil Meacham went to Wahoo. Arnie Mace family visited George Reed.
A Studebaker driven by G B R Palmer and his wife with Bert Murdock of Hastings crashed into a ditch near the Polk York county line around 1 am Monday. Mr Palmer died, Mrs Palmer and Mr Murdock survived with injuries. Investigators note reckless driving and alcohol involvement.
In Butler County M. A. Shaw carried every precinct by wide margins and totaled 554 votes in David City, with 201 in the first ward 154 in the second and 199 in the third. The Banner notes residents praise his home-ground support as proof of his fitness for office.
The fire department was called yesterday afternoon to extinguish a blaze in the rear of the Monson Block where rubbish caught fire. Some damage occurred to the telephone company warehouse before the blaze was found. Last Friday evening an alarm was set off by a chimney fire at the Adam Luft farm north of town with no damage.
Mrs. Carrie Morrison entertained the Happy Hour Society at her daughter Mrs. F. C. Thrasher's home on Saturday. A three course lunch was served at noon with yellow and green as the color scheme. Mrs. Frank Joy traveled to Omaha to visit her daughter Mrs. Mildred O galby and family for a few days.

A baby boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lind west of Osceola last Saturday April 14. For sale Leghorn hatching eggs at 3.00 per hundred. Mrs. Mark Hendrickson, Osceola, hosts the Young Women's Missionary Kensington meeting next Tuesday April 4. mite boxes will be opened. At Stromsburg’s fourth district Womans Club convention last week officers elected include Miss Mary St. Martin of Wahoo as President and Mrs. E Carrell of Hebron as Vice President with Miss Eloise Addams as Treasurer.
A district meeting of the Encampment branch of the I O O F was held Tuesday evening at the hall. Over one hundred attendees, including visitors from other towns, saw Patriarchal and Golden Rule Degrees conferred on 10 candidates by teams from the York land and David City Encampments. Present were Grand Patriarchs Button and Plumb of York Past Grand Master John Harper of David City District Deputy Grand Patriarch Gardner of York and John Pittman superintendent of the Odd Fellows Home at York. The gathering concluded with a midnight feed.
Rev. Paul Melin presides as Harmony Society meets at Miss Allinda Fernandez’s home Friday at 8 P M. Sunday April 22 features Sunday School Bible Classes at 10 A M and English Worship at 11 A M followed by a rally. Swedish Vespers Tuesday at 7 30 P M and Bible and Prayer Hour. Luther League postponed to first Thursday in May due to pastor at Nebraska Conference in Bertrand.
Rupert Swanson's Osceola Hatchery was taken over last week by F B Harman of Saunders county and renamed The Florence Hatchery. Harman, a skilled poultryman, will continue local hatching and has shipped thousands of baby chicks to meet demand.
The High Prairie school hosted the second annual Junior-Senior Banquet on Friday with hall decorations in Senior colors and a radio effect. Mothers of the Junior class prepared the banquet while sophomore girls served in special costumes. The Senior Class Play The House by the Side of the Road is planned to be staged soon as a comedy drama not to be missed.
Dr Wurtz was injured Monday when a vulcanizer in his dental laboratory exploded. The device vents high steam pressure and the blast ripped skin on his lower right jaw and right cheek, scorched his neck and chest, and required several stitches. He remains optimistic the injuries could have been worse.
