Local Residence Changes Reported in Osceola

Mr and Mrs James Langer Angela and Debbie moved from Silver Creek to the Gary Garey residence in south Osceola. Mr and Mrs Raymond Gestrine moved from the Ridge to the former Maud Nuquist residence. The Dan Armbruster family left for Aurora. Mr and Mrs Dean Henriksen will occupy the Armbruster vacated house.

Local Auxiliary Hosts Statewide Child Welfare Tea

The Osceola unit of the Legion Auxiliary hosts an April 18 Child Welfare Tea at Osceola High School Auditorium with state officers and dignitaries attending. More than 100 handmade items for Beatrice State Home and state veterans hospitals will be displayed, and the program features Beatrice State Home Choral Group and Kenton Williams of the Nebraska State Welfare Department. Tickets are 75 cents. public invited. doors open 1:00 p.m.

Seaman Jones Returns Aboard USS New Jersey In Vietnam War Action

Schott Baby Born at St Mary Hospital

Mr and Mrs Don Schott of Silver Creek are the parents of a girl born Easter Sunday at St Mary Hospital Columbus. She weighed 7 pounds 10 ounces and was named Jami Lynn. Paternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs E C Schott.

Mary Lou Kresha selected as official member of University of Nebraska poultry judging team. Four students travel to Knoxville for the Southeastern Intercollegiate Poultry Judging Contest April 14–20. Ak-Sar-Ben funds trip with UNL. Mary Lou is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Kresha.

Hearing date set for Capital Bus service

Osceola Bulldogs Outscore Henderson In Season Opener

Osceola defeated Henderson 89 to 69 in the first meet for both teams. Senior Jack Cerny led with 24 points and four first places including the 100 yard low hurdles in 11.8, tying the school record, plus wins in broad jump and shot put. Duane Gabriel set a two mile record of 10 41.3 as Cal Coffin, Randy Bond and Jim Green contributed multiple wins.

Spring Track Meet On Wet Church Lot At Osceola

The Whip O Creme meet opened with a 220 yard church lot track due to wet facilities. Osceola athletes led in multiple events including Cerny in sprints and field events with several school records and top finishes.

McVeigh Patriarch 79 Dies in Grand Island

Anthony E. McVeigh 79 father of Art McVeigh died Saturday at Annie Jeffrey Hospital. Services were Tuesday at St Marys Cathedral Grand Island with burial in Grand Island. The McVeighs had resided in Osceola in recent years.

Rodene couple marked 55th wedding anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Rodene were honored for their 55 years of marriage at a Monday evening April 7 celebration. The event featured a supper brought in by Mervin and Joni Ransom and DeVern Rodene, Kathy, Tom and Kent, with additional well wishers Glen Anderson Emil Monson and George Heckman joining later.

Nebraska passes LB42 requiring notice to County Assessor

A new Nebraska law enacted March 6 requires any builder or remodeler spending 1000 dollars or more to file a notice of intention with the County Assessor. Forms are available at the assessor's office. The rule aims to inform assessments of real estate improvements and may incur a 25 dollar fine per project for noncompliance. The County Attorney may prosecute. there is no charge for the blank or filing.

Runaway Returned to Detroit After Shelby Incident

A sixteen year old runaway was apprehended in Shelby on Monday night March 31 and returned to his Detroit home through cooperation with law enforcement. He evaded Jack Harrison and state patrols for hours before a second capture, stayed overnight for ID, and his family wired funds for return by plane. No charges were filed. Judith Schott recovers at home after ten days in York Hospital for a kidney infection. Dwight Bush admitted to St Francis Hospital Grand Island for surgery. Alfred Kuhnel discharged from Bergan Mercy after three weeks with Mrs. Kuhnel staying with the Bob Weber family in Ralston. The Petersons drove their daughter to Mayer Rochester for medical consultation. Nekl and Mrs. Nekl returned home with Stephanie remaining for a time.
