Dr Sood Begins Practice at Polk County Clinic

Dr Subhash Sood joins Polk County Clinic as a general practitioner in Osceola on Monday his first day after arriving Sunday from New Delhi India where he trained as a physician. He moved to the United States in 1975 seeking advanced medical training and to support family in India.

Polk extension clubs host spring tea with scholarship award

At the Polk County Extension Clubs spring tea held March 29 at the Methodist Church in Osceola area, over 90 members registered. Patricia Bender won the 1976 Homemaking Scholarship, with Peggy Lea as alternate. The event featured macrame crafts and door prizes. Osceola High School Music will host concerts April 5 and the same week.

1976 Girls And Boys Staters Named By American Legion And Auxiliary

Beth Jones and Dan Bond, Osceola High School juniors, were named 1976 Girls State and Boys State delegates by the American Legion William Wolfe Post 91. The week at University of Nebraska Lincoln features government study and a mock election. Alternate delegates are Susan Kaczor and Murray Jones.

Thinclads Opened Season On Track At Henderson

The OHL boys track team opened season at Henderson in a triangular with Stromsburg and Henderson Osceola finished third with 31 points while Henderson won with 106 1/2 and Stromsburg 40 1/2. Cliffords won pole vault 10 6 and Steve Peterson 9 6. Herrmann 43 1/2 in shot put. Wieseman 41 1/2 in 41 1/2. Bond 16 9 in long jump. Zelasney brothers posted several top times. relay teams claimed multiple top finishes.

Firemen Called Twice Last Week

Two brush fires got out of control last week prompting quick Osceola Volunteer Fire Department responses. A row of evergreen trees at the Cave Alt house east of town burned before extinguishment, aided by a neighbor who dug a trench to shield the Althouse buildings. A second fire west of the Fairview Church in a shelterbelt was stopped before further damage.

Several 4-H Camps Available This Year

Polk County 4-H members may join four camps this summer. The Seward regular camp for under 14 runs June 16 to 18. New Gretna camps include a junior high age camp July 7 to 9 and an overnight junior leader camp July 9 evening to July 10. Leaders over 14 attend a Leadership and Environment Camp at the Nebraska State 4-H Camp in Halsey.

Individual Efforts Rewarded At First Meet

Osceola girls track opened the season at Columbus Scotus with 50 participants from Scotus against a smaller Osceola squad. Vicki Kucera won the shot and discus, Jayne Nelson placed in long jump and sprints, Sheryl Schott led the 440, Bernie Nitsch won the mile, and Paula Smith led relays. The team prepares for the Fullerton Relays this Saturday and a Rising City meet on April 6.

Death notice for Kathryne Drog 80

Funeral services were held for Kathryne Drog 80 at St Edward Catholic Church with burial at St Edward Cemetery. A native of Poland she died Tuesday at her home in St Edward. Surviving are three sons and six daughters including Mrs Don Schott of Silver Creek.

Wayne State College Concert at Osceola Tonight

The Wayne State College concert band and jazz rock ensemble perform at Osceola high school gym Thursday April 1 at 7 30 p m. The program spans Bach to Sousa and Gershwin plus Dixieland and rock with no admission charge.
