Osceola bowlers shine in state meet with Sculley high finish

In Hastings on March 13 Janis Sculley led Osceola Blue Flames with five scores over 200 finishing second in All Events at the State Women's Open. Delores Marak helped in doubles while Sculley placed top 10 in singles and she earlier won the Stomsburg city tournament.

Bond And Anderson Honored At Legion Birthday Dinner

William Wolfe Post 91 observed the 57th birthday of the American Legion at a banquet Saturday March 20 with Bond and Anderson honored during the Legion birthday dinner.

Death notices and community notices from council bluffs and area

Deaths include Mrs. Irvin Jones 36 of Omaha who died from injuries in a Friday night car truck accident in Council Bluffs with services held Wednesday. Mrs. Walter Herrmann 76 of Berkeley died March 5 after illness, widow and family survivors noted. Dean Carter 48 died at home near Silver Creek with services scheduled. local Legion events and awards highlighted with district commander Lowell Feye as guest and 61 members secured for 1976 along with other recognitions.

Six wagons and 33 animals encamped overnight at Polk County Fairgrounds Osceola led by Sheriff Peterson. The National Bicentennial Wagon Train stops in Polk County on April 23 en route to Omaha and Valley Forge. Wagons hail from Washington and Oregon with journeys from Blaine Washington to Fort Laramie and Nebraska wintering before resuming southbound routes.

Conference Coaches Pick Bulldogs Sterup Zelasney

Two Osceola players earned Goldenrod All-Conference honors as coach selections named Bob Sterup to the first team and John Zelasney to the second. Sterup scored 245 points and pulled 114 rebounds. Zelasney led with 274 points and 100 assists for the Bulldogs.

Polk County Historical Society Meeting Highlights and Local Notes

About thirty members and guests attended the March 18 meeting at the Osceola City Building. Programs included a history of trains by Bernie Gissler, with singing by Peggy Watts and Lori Coffin. Updates covered the Wagon Train arrival, museum improvements, and the Mickey house on the national register. The next meeting is April 15 at Swede Haven with a planned doll show.

Habitat Bill Passed to Boost Nebraska Wildlife Lands

The Nebraska Legislature approved LB 861 by 39 to 6 to raise about 2.7 million dollars yearly through higher hunting and fishing licenses and a 7.50 habitat stamp. Funds will buy, develop and manage wildlife lands, with cooperation from natural resources districts and a willing-seller basis. Sponsored by Senator Don Dworak, the bill followed 14 public meetings statewide with strong support.
