Middletown officials advanced a garbage collection ordinance as Aldermen approved sanitary and street work measures. The meeting featured routine reports, sewer hearings, and various street and pole relocation items, with election of a police candidate pending further voting.
Among appointees named by the Governor to inquire into employers’ liability and unemployment in New York is Titus of Kingston a passenger conductor and chairman to the general committee of a salt industry. Also named is John Mitchell another member. Mr Tuak, formerly of Middletown, is a semiman of former Senator M W Marvin of Walton.
The body of Gree Al MalleT von Tork Son faz was brought here for burial after a Tuesday morning death. Interment occurred in the family plot at St Joseph’s Cemetery. The New York funeral Monday drew a large crowd of flowers and attendance, with pallbearers Edward C. Strack, Benjamin H. Fater, William Nearn, and John Derine.

In police court at Tusday Special County Judge H B Royce heard the case of Samuel Hock charged by Lena Wood with assault in the third degree. Lena Wood, her mother, and a neighbor testified of a dispute at Hocks home and a minor scuffle during which Hock allegedly struck Lena Wood. Hock denied striking her and said she struck him with an instrument. the recorder discharged the defendant and urged against bringing such matters to court.
David Barry from Bileavie faced arraignment for drunkenness after a Monday arrest by Officer McCoach for threatening a beating. Barry was fined $10 or 10 days in Goshen jail, chose the cars, and left. Milton Higby of Montgomery pleaded guilty to intoxication and was discharged. he reflected on his duties as a farm hand and the impact of his actions. Edward Angar of Jersey, working locally, was fined $5 for the incident or five days in Mmbo, and returned with funds to leave town.
At the Orange County Bible Society annual meeting in Hopewell Church Thompson Ridge a memorial report honors the late Dr Henry Denton Nicoll of New Windsor. The committee Rev J Scott King Rev Theron Brittai n and Charles E Knapp express deep sorrow and gratitude for his service and intimate ties to the American Bible Society. They extend sympathy to his family and pledge to publish the resolutions in minutes and send copies to the Nicoll family the American Bible Society and the county press.
Burglars strike Montgomery homes Sunday about 12:20 am, forcing entrance to James H Reed’s residence and attempting a second break nearby. They climbed to a rear roof and entered Russell Reed’s room through a window but fled when Mr Reed awakened. Police suspect local troublemakers linked to the New York Water Supply Company project.
Buffalo Bill and Pawnee Bill departed Newburgh by 3 am after a seamless, grand display that dazzled locals. Virginis Shafer a five year old of the Wailkill House plunged into four foot deep Wallkill water when swung in a hammock tied to trees in the hotel backyard. Julius Huber hotel clerk leaped in and dragged her to safety, earning praise for his brave rescue.
The Middletown Had Cartlers Union will march to Newburgh with 75 members for the Labor Day parade on Sept 6. The Middletown Painters will field 60 uniformed men with the Charles Higham Fife Drum and Bugle Corps. Port Jervis and Walden send large delegations. The Orange County Labor Union imposes a $25 fine on any delegate who patronizes United Cigar Stores Co. outlets.

They traveled to New York City and Atlantic City, planning to reach Pittsburgh by July 1.

Two lifelong Port Jervis friends argued over a Wild West show dispute. They returned home to Dr L G Distler where one struck the other in the mouth during a scuffle in his yard. Recorder Thompson released them with orders to go home and resume friendship.
William C. Van Sickle died in West Pittston Pennsylvania on Saturday at age 88. A Port Jervis resident for years he served as carpenter in the Erie railroad and fought in the Civil War with the 124th New York. He was twice married to Emily Misher and held local offices in Deerpark and Port Jervis including chief of police and street commissioner. He long belonged to Port Jervis Lodge FP AM and Asteyac the Mt. Van Sickle was believed the oldest Odd Fellow in the United States with sixty two years in the order since age 21. Survived by two sons Emmet Port Jervis and Charles W West Pittston, a stepdaughter Mrs S Freedman West Pittston, and stepson John T Fisher Middletown. Funeral held Wednesday at Emmet Van Sickle’s Port Jervis home.
Mrs. Joseph Durant aged 33 was killed around 9 30 Tuesday morning on the O W Railroad near Dear Horley toward Kingston as train 409 approached. Engineer Bearss blew whistle and applied brakes but she did not heed warnings. Conductor George Wortman was in charge of the train.
The funeral of Mrs Michael Dora was held at St Joseph's Church Tuesday morning at 16 o'clock. Father M J Shing officiated and celebrated requiem high mass. The funeral was well attended as was a large collection of floral tributes. The pallbearers were Deniel Sweeney, John P D Lee, William Malloon, John H Landes, Joseph Sney, and Miles Sweeney. Burial in the family plot in St Joseph's Peters.
