Fragmented diary entries recount fights with Jake, a high spirited boast, and brushing reconciliation. The narrator notes parental quarrels over marriage, a burned liver dinner, hens and lice on chicks, dreams of running away, and a social visit with a stylish young woman.
The Wovnne's Missionary Society of the Christian Church met at Mrs NF Barkley's home Wednesday. A regular program plus talk by Mrs Smith a reading by Mrs Rose Williams and a vocal solo by Mrs Olive DeMotte highlighted the entertaining evening. Flowers decorated the rooms and small flower bouquets were favors. Refreshments of ice cream and cherry pie followed as about 50 members and guests departed after a highly profitable meeting.
The Memorial Service for the Grand Army of the Republic will be held next Sunday at 10 30 in the Methodist church with the local pastor delivering the sermon. Decoration Day services occur May 30 at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church with the church pastor giving the main address. The Methodist Centenary campaign notes progress but laments some parishioners withholding gifts while promising to report final totals in the next issue.
Lord's Day services include Bible school at 9 30 and worship at 10 40 with Sermon on Monu mental Institutions. Evangelistic service. children's day planning. attendance figures and offerings noted. Parsonage move to Morocco Indiana and visits by Mildred Smith and Helen Fenton mentioned. Soldiers and Sailors reception praised.
Miss Cordia Mary hosts guests from Wednesday night to Sunday. Several locals travel to Rockville and Locgotee to visit kin and attend sanatoriums. Many notices of weekend visits include Chestnut, Hayes, Ketcham, Toon, Beasley, and Maryfield families with varied travels and hospital stays. The Burns City ball team played Dover Hill 29 to 26, and residents frequent relatives nearby.
Curtis Smiley and wife traveled east of Center en route to Odon. Lieut. Force flew past in his aeroplane between Odon and here. Ray Jamison of Scotland injured an arm when his auto left the road north of this village, a doctor from Odon treated him. Monday rain slowed corn planting and farmers voiced disappointment. Several residents and visitors from Van Buren, Toledo, Bloomington and Martin County were seen in the area visiting relatives or attending events and performances.
