Fiscal confusion delays Norwalk tax, costs interest
A $127 425 real estate tax check for Norwalk was delayed from Aug 1 to Sept 8 because the city did not file its 1968 budget with the Huron County Budget Commission by the July 20 deadline. The formal copy arrived Sept 6, two days before the funds were released. The delay cost potential interest, while city funds are invested short term. County officials note most subdivisions meet deadlines, though Norwalk’s was late. The incident echoes a prior year dispute over county fund distribution resolved with the attorney general’s opinion.
