Ashland Wakeman Entries Dominate North Central Holstein Show

Ashland and Wakeman dominated the livestock judging to close the 1967 North Central Holstein Show. Ashland and Wakeman swept most senior and junior calf, yearling, and champion classes with Linda Wyler and Kenny Kengler among winners. Harness racing results listed Florescent and Pronto Pick sharing top mile times, with a coin toss deciding Pronto Pick’s win.

Dzu Convicted in Absentia on Bad Check Charge in Saigon

South Vietnamese criminal court in Saigon convicts Truong Dinh Dzu in absentia for passing a bad check and illegal money transfer. He receives nine months in jail and a $27,777 fine. City youngsters at Norwalk elementary schools may enter a beard coloring contest as part of the Sesquicentennial celebration. Drawing forms are available Monday through Friday, and judges will award prizes based on neatness and likeness to historical beards.

Crane Boom Collapse Kills Norwalk Worker Albert Cotter

Albert L. Cotter 52 of New London dies after a crane boom buckles during extension work near Route 250 South Norwalk Road. Safety devices were absent. another Baltes employee George Blackett injured. Cotter served in WWII Manhattan Project era and is survived by wife Bertha and several relatives. Funeral services set at Eastman Funeral Home with burial at Grove Street Cemetery.

Train Hits Car Kills Norwalk Couple

A Norfolk and Western freight train struck a 1965 Mustang on Laylin Road near Norwalk, killing John Nastodian 24 and Carol Nastodian 23. Their three year old daughter Kimberly Ann remained in critical condition at Elyria Memorial Hospital. The family was returning home from a garden errand when the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. All three were thrown from the car. the train engineer and conductor were named. Funeral plans were set for Monday at First Methodist Church.
