Investigators said the flight recorder could not be recovered due to 3,281 feet of water depth after the Caravelle crashed in flames off Nice. The twin engine jet was flying Corsica to Nice when it went down with all aboard.
Berlin Heights Berlin Milan teachers head William Rose and board member Robert Stein publicly support Superintendent C J Lindecamp amid criticism. Rose says the 71 teachers endorse his administration and calls for constructive community involvement. Stein notes the board’s confidence in Lindecamp and cites his collaboration in earlier school merger decisions.
Jeanne Missey a 12 year old Huron County 4H member laments not winning hog judging at the Junior Fair. She raised two hogs and showed Terry the larger one but struggled with showmanship. She did win a first in the county safety talk and will sell Terry at the livestock sale to fund her school wardrobe.
Rain and mud failed to dampen attendance at the Huron County Fair where Mrs. Kathleen M. Harris notes lower grandstand turnout but praises the Shower of Stars show. Two harness races were postponed and Judge events continued with Lynn Anderson set to perform at 8 p.m. Grandstand events and junior fair judging proceed today.

Senate Democratic leader Mike Mansfield said the Abe Fortas nomination to chief justice will very likely face a full Senate vote the week of September 23. He warned a filibuster is certain as Judiciary Committee hearings begin with new witnesses on Fortas and Lyndon B. Johnson.
