A bomb blast Saturday night gouged a hole in the back of the John Kennedy memorial at Runnymede England and cracked a seven ton block. Police remove debris as authorities note no direct link to London anti Vietnam protest on Sunday.
About 4 000 students paraded through Prague shouting anti Soviet slogans on the 50th anniversary of the Czechoslovak Republic. Russian troops observed but did not intervene as police warned the unauthorized demonstration.
Ohio Senator Frank Lausche reportedly pledged support to the Republican candidate over his May primary foe. He told Attorney General William Laxbe the opposition candidate is best suited to help heal the country.
The Norwalk charter commission proposes two changes that would affect council legislation. A published notice would be required after first reading to alert the public when and where action will occur. Emergency measures would need six votes, up from five.
The city charter outlines emergency legislation rules and actions barred from emergency ordinances such as income tax. It specifies three reading and waiting period requirements for franchises, utility rate setting, and public utility sales. The Huron County Bar Association mailed a reply to the Erie Huron Community Action Commission about approving a legal aid program. CAC director Emerson Cole and program coordinator George Hayduk met with the bar two weeks ago. Erie County Bar has endorsed the project. The request seeks funding for a full time attorney plus five staff to provide counseling to those in poverty.
Hubert H. Humphrey arrived in Canton with Olympic boxing champion Ron Harris and a crowd of about 150 at Akron Canton Airport. Harris, a Canton native and Kent State student, joined Humphrey at Malone College for a rally before he spoke at the Summit County Courthouse and Admiral King High School in Lorain.
