Bowling Green students killed in crash near Napoleon

Two Bowling Green State University students died when a foreign-made sports car left U.S. 24 and hit a tree about 2.1 miles west of Napoleon Ohio. Driver Gerald Roltz age 21 of Reading Ohio died after being thrown from the vehicle. The passenger’s name was withheld pending next of kin notification.

Viet Ammo Dump Explodes in Saigon Shock Wave

A large explosion at a U S ammunition depot in Long Binh near Saigon caused a fire and injuries to several Americans. Officials avoided casualty counts, citing security, while suggesting possible causes from accident to sabotage or a mortar lobbed by Viet Cong. The blast lit the night sky as flames rose over the city.

W D Conway Dies Norwalk Businessman 66

Norwalk business leader W D Conway died early today at Sandusky Memorial Hospital after a brief illness at 66. He founded Norwalk Parts Co in 1940 and led Norwalk Wholesale Distributors Inc and served on multiple boards including Home Savings and Loan. He held military, civic, and church roles and is survived by his wife Gertrude two sons a sister and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held Monday at St Pauls Lutheran with private graveside rites at Lakewood Park Cemetery. Memorials may go to Sandusky Memorial Hospital.

Arson Suspected at Starkey Nursing Home in Norwalk

Norwalk police and fire units investigated a Thursday night fire at the Starkey Nursing Home on Main Street. A burning paper bag stuffed in a basement window ignited insulation around a steam pipe, causing localized charring with no other damage found.

Changes In City Code Published Takes Effect

A new code of ordinances passed on an emergency basis at the last city council meeting has taken effect. Public information notes publish changes on page 12. Walter H. United Fund Nears Goal Amid Shortfall

With four days remaining in the Norwalk Area United Fund drive more than 42900 has been raised toward a 55700 goal. President Harry Parke and drive chairman Mark Beeman say results look favorable and that workers remain to finish soliciting and collect unreported gifts. A cleanup team will revisit homes not reached in the initial door to door canvass.
